Taysom Hill Gets $40M Contract Extension To NOT Be Saints QB?

Taysom Hill is such an interesting player. For one, he can do everything on the field the team needs but his original position is supposed to be quarterback which he isn’t quite good enough to be a starter. The Saints don’t seem to mind as long as Hill is a positive contributor on offense in some way.

To break down the new, Hill is getting $40M from the Saints to stay with the club catching passes and running the ball. If he is ever the QB then his deal balloons to almost $100M. If I were Taysom I’d focus on beating out Jameis Winston because the difference between 45 and 95M is staggering.

Here are the details:

New Orleans’ QB Taysom Hill signed a unique four-year, hybrid-type of a contract extension that could be worth anywhere between $40 million and $95 million, depending on the position he plays, and includes $22.5 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN.

Taysom Hill’s hybrid deal is unique and unlike other contracts because it pays him a $40 million base salary for the role that he’s currently playing and up to an additional $55 million if he does become the Saints’ starting QB for the next four seasons.

Even if he never becomes the QB, getting $10 million a year to be a gadget player is great money, and the $22.5 million guaranteed is nothing to sneeze at.
