In a bold twist of speculation that has sent ripples across the media landscape, it appears that one of the world’s tech giants might be eyeing a monumental leap into the realm of sports broadcasting. The company in question is none other than Apple Inc., and the target of this rumored acquisition is no less than “The Worldwide Leader in Sports” itself, ESPN. This audacious move would not only reshape the sports media landscape but also potentially grant Apple the coveted TV rights to major professional sports events.

Wedbush Securities analyst, Dan Ives, recently shared his insight on this matter in an interview with CNBC. According to Ives, the notion of Apple acquiring ESPN is a “no-brainer,” and he firmly believes that these two giants will inevitably find common ground. “Cupertino is looking to go after live sports content as the golden goose,” Ives stated, hinting at Apple’s eagerness to delve into the dynamic world of sports entertainment. He confidently added, “I believe it’s a matter of when—not if—ESPN and Apple get together.”

The speculation doesn’t stop there. Renowned author and former Washington Post journalist, James Andrew Miller, also weighed in on the potential partnership between Apple and ESPN. Miller’s perspective is equally intriguing, as he envisions a future where Apple’s immense resources could reshape the landscape of media rights. “Apple has enough change in their couch cushions to fundamentally alter the media rights landscape,” Miller asserted, highlighting the tech giant’s unprecedented financial prowess.

While these speculations might sound like the musings of industry insiders, it’s important to remember that this isn’t the first time such a seismic shift has been hinted at. In fact, earlier this year, Disney’s CEO Bob Iger made a statement about the future of “The Worldwide Leader in Sports” during a call, as reported by Jill Goldsmith of Deadline. However, as history has often demonstrated, the allure of a substantial offer can sway even the most steadfast decisions in the business world. Disney, which currently owns ESPN, could be enticed to part ways with its prized asset if Apple were to present an irresistible proposition.

The timing of this speculation is particularly intriguing given recent events in the sports broadcasting landscape. ESPN underwent a series of significant staff reductions earlier this year, with Disney CEO Bob Iger already having forewarned of job cuts totaling around 7,000 positions. Notable figures such as Suzy Kolber, Jalen Rose, Max Kellerman, Steve Young, Matt Hasselbeck, and Jeff Van Gundy were among those affected. These changes within ESPN’s roster could potentially pave the way for a larger shift, should Apple decide to make its play.

The prospect of Apple entering the world of sports broadcasting is nothing short of revolutionary. With its unparalleled reach, technological innovation, and financial clout, the tech giant could reshape how sports content is delivered and consumed. If the speculations hold true, the union of Apple and ESPN could signify a new era in sports entertainment—one where cutting-edge technology meets the thrill of the game, all brought to you through a screen near you. As the sports media landscape continues to evolve, the question remains: Is this a game-changing acquisition in the making? Only time will tell.

In a surprising turn of events on ESPN’s flagship show, First Take, renowned sports commentator Stephen A. Smith found himself at the center of a heated on-air debate involving former NBA player Kendrick Perkins and retired basketball star JJ Redick. The discussion, initially intended to focus on the NBA MVP race, took an unexpected turn when Perkins introduced the topic of race into the conversation, leading to an uncomfortable exchange that left viewers stunned.

The incident occurred during a segment dedicated to discussing the frontrunners for the NBA MVP award, with Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic emerging as the leading candidate. As the discussion progressed, Kendrick Perkins, known for his outspoken nature, seized the opportunity to address what he perceived as a racial bias in the MVP voting process.

Perkins highlighted the fact that Jokic, a Serbian player, was leading the MVP race, while a significant majority of the voters were white. He raised concerns about a potential racial disparity in how the award was being evaluated, sparking a contentious debate on a sensitive subject.

Unbeknownst to Perkins, his remarks struck a nerve with guest commentator JJ Redick, who was also present on the show. Redick, known for his strong stance on racial issues and social justice, passionately confronted Perkins, asserting that race should not play a role in determining the MVP. The discussion quickly became heated, with both Redick and Perkins exchanging pointed remarks.

Stephen A. Smith, who is no stranger to handling intense debates on his show, attempted to mediate the situation. However, the tension escalated beyond his control, leading to an uncomfortable on-air clash that left viewers divided and concerned about the direction the conversation had taken.

In the aftermath of the incident, Stephen A. Smith reflected on the situation during an appearance on the Bill Simmons podcast. Admitting that he allowed the discussion to become excessively heated, Smith took responsibility for not effectively steering the conversation back to a more constructive and respectful tone. He acknowledged the need for better moderation in order to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

The incident involving Stephen A. Smith, Kendrick Perkins, and JJ Redick serves as a reminder of the challenges and complexities that arise when discussing sensitive topics like race in sports. It is important to address issues of racial equity, as well as it is equally crucial to maintain a productive dialogue that fosters understanding.

As the sports world continues to grapple with issues of race and representation, it is incumbent upon commentators, athletes, broadcasters, and producers such as Stephen A. himself to handle such discussions with care, recognizing the potential for tension and striving for open and constructive dialogue that moves us towards a more inclusive and equitable future.

It is time to give credit where credit is due. Approximately two years ago ESPN analyst Merrill Hodge was heavily criticized for coming at Texas A&M’s Johnny Manziel and his lack of elite first round talent.

Looking back, Hodge’s rant was 100% spot on. People forget that some were calling for Johnny Football at #1 overall!

Here is what Hodge said:

Johnny’s skill set had bust written all over him.

No team should take him in the first round.

Any staff that takes him, the head coach, staff and GM will be fired in two years.

Johnny makes bad decisions and NOT pan out in the league.

Graded him a 6th round pick at BEST.

No team should draft him in the first 3 rounds

All of these predictions were 100% DEAD ACCURATE. SPOT ON.

But yet people like Skip Bayless who said Johnny should have went #1 overall still get paid millions to analyze sports?

I’ll just hold my tongue there.

ESPN personality Todd McShay has blessed the draft world with a new set of mock draft picks. At this point in the draft process Todd is usually a bit more out there with his picks and predictions of risers. It looks to me that for 2016 Todd has decided to keep things a bit tame this time around. We’ll see if he diverts from this approach later on in the draft season.

Now before we get to the picks below as usual I will be adding a comment under his selections in italics.

Todd’s picks below:

1. Titans: Joey Bosa
The Titans will not and I repeat will not keep this pick, but if they do it will be Tunsil and not Bosa. Bosa may be the most talented but Tunsil is a 1B to his 1A and makes more sense for a team that is invested so heavily in rebuilding the offense.

2. Browns: Paxton Lynch
Johnny Manziel will be gone. McCown is going to retire. I like it.

3. Chargers: Robert Nkemdiche
Versatile defensive lineman. They just need to keep him away from that “sticky icky ooh wee!”

4. Ravens: Jalen Ramsey
Is this as a corner or as a safety? I like him better as a safety it would be a mistake to draft him as a CB which is where Baltimore would use him in this scenario.

5. 49ers: Jared Goff
Kaep done?

6. Cowboys: Jaylon Smith
I like it.

7. Lions: Laremy Tunsil
I think this will be a QB. The Lions will be rebuilding completely from the ground up. Connor Cook will garner heavy consideration in Michigan as well.

8. Dolphins: Ronnie Stanley
No problems with this pick.

9. Jaguars: Vernon Hargreaves III
Solid pick.

10. Rams: Laquon Treadwell
With Bailey’s incident, I can see them moving on as well.

ESPN host Michelle Beadle has drawn the ire of Florida State fans regarding her comments about the University. In case you forgot, she called anyone attached to the University “filth” via twitter.

Sadly, Beadle isn’t the only ESPN employee to say something offensive this week.

Colin Cowherd has gotten himself taken off of television over insensitive remarks regarding Dominicans. If you believe the rumors it seems like right about now Fox Sports Net is going to start grabbing up some of the ESPN talents. Especially with budget cuts due over at the four letter sports leader:

“The Wall Street Journal report had pinpointed Cowherd, along with host/reporter Michelle Beadle, NFL reporter Adam Schefter and Monday Night Football anchor Mike Tirico, as big names that could be affected by ESPN tightening its belt, but anyone who listens to Cowherd’s The Herd knows that he hasn’t exactly been quiet over the air about his frustrations with the sports giant.”

“TBL’s report also points out that Cowherd joining Fox would signal a reunion between he and Jamie Horowitz, the new president of Fox Sports. Horowitz produced ESPN’s SportsNation with Cowherd and Beadle, making Beadle another ESPN personality who could leave for Fox Sports as well. That reunion could also pave the way for Cowherd to get his own television show or at least contribute to programs on Fox and FS1.”

What do you think? Will ESPN #FireBeadle or will they continue to turn a blind eye to the type of ideas this employee continues to communicate via her twitter account?

I can only imagine how some of the colleagues at ESPN really feel about all of this…

ESPN personality Michelle Beadle has drawn the ire of Florida State fans who want her suspended or removed from television.

After ALLEGEDLY engaging in one of her usual twitter spats, Michelle Beadle put out a tweet ALLEGEDLY directed at the entire Florida State community. Word to the wise these always end with her blocking mass amounts of people.

Well FSU fans aren’t taking it lightly and have gathered a Change.org petition to have her removed:

Recently, ESPN sports reporter Michelle Beadle has publicly expressed her hatred for Florida State University, its players and its students through unprofessional comments portrayed on her twitter page. Michelle has stated that anyone linked to Florida State University is “filth” and taken as a joke. Additional derogatory comments have continued to come from Beadle following the recent acts of violence committed by a few members of the Florida State football team, actions of which were caught on camera. As students, alumni and fans of Florida State University we fully support freedom of speech, but her recent comments are hurtful, thoughtless and uncensored and we believe she should not be representing ESPN. Florida State University consists of 40,000 students and hundreds of thousands of alumni and other supporters, and we are truly so much more than football. It is shameful to stereotype a large school like FSU based off of the actions of only a small percentage of the football team. No, we do not in any way support their violence but we believe one should not be publicly frowned upon simply for carrying the title of Florida State University. Jimbo Fisher and President Thrasher have been diligently working to remind players of the rules and values expected of student athletes. Florida State only has so much control over its athletes, as does every other university, and cannot reform ones character or moral values which they were raised upon. The majority of students, alumni and all supporters are proud to be from such a diverse and powerful community and do uphold the true values upon which FSU was founded. We believe immediate action should be taken regarding the impulsive generalizations which Michelle Beadle has so clearly posted on her twitter page, as this is not the first time she has over-stepped her boundaries as a, so-called, unbiased ESPN reporter.

What do you think? Do you think that the Stone Cold Steve Austin loving, Mayweather hater should be removed?

Do you think that a person that would ALLEGEDLY tweet behind a co-worker’s back instead of confronting him face-to-face should suffer such a fate?

Should she have to apologize to FSU?

Will you sign?
