The season is here! We are going through the preseason right now and everyone is already excited for the 2019 NFL Draft. Someone especially excited is Cowboysfan who has posted his updated list of Dallas Cowboys potential selections.

Check them out below:

This Draft will feature potential options for Dallas in rounds 1 and 3. Round 2 is reserved for an Earl Thomas trade.

1. Cowboys: Noah Fant TE Iowa

(Round 1) As of right now DT is the biggest need due to the lack of bodies available, but TE is still a serious need. None of the guys scream NFL starting TE to me. They have a lot of inexperience and outside of Swaim none of the TEs can block. So TE could be a first round target for Dallas. DraftTek had Fant going in the top 15. I like Fant, but I do envision TEs going that high. Fant is an athletic specimen at 6’5″ 230 lbs. and is quite fast as well. He at this point is more of a vertical TE, but in time he can develop into that underneath guy as well. Fant despite his size and athletic ability is actually a capable blocker too. I do think he need to add weight as 230 lbs. is not big enough to routinely stay in and block.

2. Cowboys: Dexter Lawrence DT Clemson

(Round 1) This is the other option for Dallas. I do not trust David Irving in any stretch, and even if he’s on the field, I feel he is too inconsistent. the Cowboys haven’t really had value in big DT, but if Marinelli retires or is let go then Lawrence is a choice that needs to be made. I think that Wilkins gets more recognition, but Lawrence is the guy that makes things go. He’s so big at 6’4″ 330 lbs. he just eats up space. He’s going to demand a double team making it easier for the whole defense. As a pass rusher, he will collapse a pocket, but not much else, he needs to improve in this area.

3. Cowboys: Jaquan Johnson S Miami (FL)

(Round 2) I really think this Earl Thomas thing will be settled. I feel that the Seahawks want to try and rapidly rebuild to win another championship before Wilson breaks down. With the Legion of Boom gone as well as Avril and Bennett, I think getting anything they can for Thomas will be of the most priority. This will require a 2nd round pick. I like Woods, while he doesn’t make many mistakes he doesn’t make plays either, and getting Thomas gives Dallas a veteran leader in the secondary. Thomas is a good tackler in the run game, but more importantly he operates as a center field FS that will help Richard’s press style of coverage, not having to worry about if you can trust Woods.
