USC Football is Off Sanctions and Rated #1 in the Nation

When I heard the USC band start playing the fight song after Matt Barkley decided to stay in school, I knew USC would be an instant favorite to win the National Title. On paper they SHOULD run the table (especially since Silas Redd is in school now) and get there relatively unscathed. Of course injuries can change that though.

For now they are back, off sanctions, and ready to win it all:

USC WR Robert Woods Still Battling Ankle Injuries

This does not bode well for the Trojans. Everything is set up for them to run the table this year and be in the National Championship conversation but if they are going to do that Robert Woods has to be part of that. The explosive receiver has been battling an ankle injury and word is coming from USC that he is still not quite healthy right now.

“Our reports have not said that he’ll be 100 percent,” Kiffin said. “Obviously, we would like for that to be case. But until I can physically get with him, which I’m not allowed to right now, and see him move around, I can’t really tell myself where exactly he is.”

Robert Woods at 89% is still better than most receivers, but you know Coach Kiffin and Matt Barkley want their best WR to be at max potential.

2013 Draft Preview: Matt Barkley

As we enter the month of June, it is already starting to feel like football season. I cannot believe it, college football is just around the corner. And like that we must start our college football preview series.

At first this series was going to be positional based (I.E. one post for QBs, one post for RBs, etc.) and it still might be but I decided to take the moment to spotlight a few guys. One of those such guys is USC’s star QB Matt Barkley.

It is no question that going into 2013 Barkley is the top QB prospect for the 2013 draft. If he would have came out in 2012, Matt would have been selected as the fourth pick as the very least.

There are many things to like about his game. His accuracy is great. He throws the ball with great anticipation of receivers getting open. He also seems to be a natural leader, and a guy who generally loves playing the game. There is no clearer proof of that then his decision to return to school and lead USC in their first season post Pete Carroll era sanctions.

All in all, Matt will likely be the #1 overall pick in 2013. His years of consistency and maturity have him currently head and shoulders above his counterparts.

Matt Barkley to Return to USC

Many fans of teams needing quarterbacks were hoping their team could draft the talented USC passer. Now they will have to wait an additional year because Matt Barkley is returning to USC. I felt it made sense for him to come out, but that he would lean towards staying.

Being under the sanctions hasn’t allowed him to get a full “college football experience” and I believe he is returning for that reason. This isn’t a Matt Leinart situation where the guy is returning to hang out with the boys.

Barkley put on a press conference where he delivered a short speech. When he announced he would be leading the 2012 Trojans the band broke out into the school’s fight song on que to a thunderous applause. You could tell that it means a lot to him to be the one take this team into the new era out of the sanctions.

In 2013, Barkley will probably be projected as a top three pick alongside Tyler Bray, and Tyrann Mathieu.

Matt Barkley Seeks Advisory on Entering 2012 NFL Draft

Here we go! Draft season is pretty much in full speed right now. With the coming Bowl Season and the NFL Playoffs starting soon, it’s time for everyone to start taking their futures into consideration.

A player taking action is USC’s Matt Barkley, who has submitted paperwork to the NFL Draft Advisory board. My thing is, why? By now he should know that he’s the 2nd or 3rd quarterback on the board depending on how teams feel about Baylor’s Robert Griffin III.

What does he want? Im guessing he submitted a piece of paper that said:

Am I better than Andrew Luck?
[ ] Yes [x] No
