Grading the Giants 2018 Draft Class

The Giants didn’t pick a QB. Yup, even with Eli almost 38 years old the Giants decided to stay the course and load up for one last run. How will these picks like Saquon Barkley help?

Here is community member Cowboysfan1993 with his take on it:

1. Giants: Saquon Barkley RB Penn State

The Giants want to commit to the run more. They get Barkley. He’s high athletic and strong. Big RB. He’s good as a runner, but even as a receiver he is a threat. He’s a bell cow RB that can turn any run into a TD. He’s not likely to play ST, but he offers value there as well. I think this is a good pick, but their O line still isn’t great, so they may not get as much value out of him initially. Grade: A

2. Giants: Will Hernandez OG Tulsa

I had Hernandez going in round 1, so this is a steal. Hernandez is a big man who excels in run blocking and has surprising athletic ability for his size. He is also good at pass blocking. He will help both Eli and Saquon. Grade: A+

3. Giants: Lorenzo Carter OLB Georgia

Carter is an athletic freak who is well built. He can play all over the front 7, but his tape and production simply isn’t there. I feel this is a huge reach by the Giants. Grade: F

4. Giants: Bijhon Jackson DT Arkansas

I like BJ Hill, and he was an integral part for that front 7. He’s strong and wins with leverage. I think this is just a little early, but he will bolster that Giants front 4. Grade: B-

5. Giants: Kyle Lauletta QB

Kyle Lauletta This is about where I expect him to go. He’s got all the tools to be successful. He excels with passes underneath and in the middle. He has good pocket awareness. He has accuracy issues going down the field. He has some potential. This pick likely means the Davis Webb experiment is over.
