Our 2015 draft recap comes to a close with the best picks of day three of the draft. Rounds five six and seven are rounds where general managers really make their money. These are the rounds where teams steal starters that other teams passed on up to seven times! (Just think about that for a minute.)

These kinds of things only happen in the NFL due to the roster size. Very rarely do NBA Playoff teams stack championship rosters with deep draft gems.

A great general manager has a knack of filling out his roster in these rounds. We just saw in Super Bowl 49 that a little known undrafted player Malcom Butler literally saved legacies with his game winning interception on the Seahawk’s final possession. Every team passed on this guy seven times and he won the Super Bowl single-handedly!

Without further adieu here are the players who just may be the next Malcom Butler:

Jaguars draft Rashad Greene WR Florida State
The Jaguars draft Jameis Winston’s favorite speedy target with a fifth round pick. Greene can impact special teams from day 1 and with some hard work he can develop into a nice slot for Bortles.

Packers draft Brett Hundley QB UCLA
I had Hundley in my final first round mock (I know, I know) so this is tremendous value. At the very least he upgrades your backup QB over Matt Flynn. Best case scenario Hundley can take the reigns over when Aaron Rodgers retires. He may not be the most polished prospect now but could easily have the best career now that he landed somewhere he can pause and work on his inconsistencies.

Jaguars draft Michael Bennett DE Ohio State
Again the Jags make our list of teams drafting well. Bennett isn’t the biggest or most powerful guy but he’s proven that when paired with some other good players he can beat one-on-ones and double teams.

Broncos draft Darius Kilgo
Kilgo is little known right now, but he has big shoes to fill. The 319 pounder will have to replace Terrance Knighton’s ability to stop runs and demand double teams so his pass rushers can eat.

Browns draft Ifo Ekpre Olomu
Ifo was my top rated corner, and is the player I like the most in this draft out of all of them if he were healthy. In two years we’ll look back and facepalm how the entire NFL passed on a Pro Bowl corner until the seventh round.

We continue our look back at a successful 2015 NFL Draft into the depths of round four. Rounds three, four, and five are the midrounds of the draft and generally the places where teams build the bulk of their roster.

That’s right people. Most of the guys you see on Sunday are third, fourth and fifth rounders. These are some of the most important picks of the draft when you really think about it.

Here are some of the picks that stood out to me as monumental building blocks for each squad:

Falcons draft Justin Hardy WR 5’10” 192 East Carolina
Atlanta cannot depend on Roddy White’s stability forever, and Hardy is a great possession receiver though somewhat small for the position. It also does not hurt that Justin Hardy caught more passes than everyone.

Vikings draft T.J. Clemmings, OT 6’5″ 309 Pittsburgh
Many had Clemmings in the first round, great value pick if for nothing than insurance.

Redskins (from Seahawks through Saints) draft Arie Kouandjio, OG 6’5″ 310 Alabama
The Skins are building a line of 300 pound grown men infront of RG3 and crew. If this squad doesn’t run the ball well in 2015 it won’t be for a lack of trying.

49ers (from Broncos) draft Mike Davis, RB 5’9″ 217 South Carolina
The 49ers didn’t get anything from Marcus Lattimore but are comfortable enough with this program to draft another back. No Frank Gore means that someone must produce, and quick.

Bengals draft Josh Shaw DB 6’0″ 201 USC
Shaw got lost in the sauce at USC amid off the field drama, and not having a true position. I think he’ll be groomed into one of the safety positions and will do well with his new team.

Let’s continue our look at some of the biggest value picks of the 2015 draft. This time we look into round three. Round three was a good spot to have multiple picks in as one team did below, as many top guys slid into the mid rounds:

Texans (from Jets) Strong, Jaelen WR 6’2″ 217 Arizona State
Jaelen is a first round talent who has some small kinks in his game. If his route running can get down better, this guy has a chance to really help fill the void of Andre Johnson.

Saints Grayson, Garrett QB 6’2″ 213 Colorado St.
Grayson will have his chance to be the young understudy of Drew Brees. The Saints basically had their pick of all of the tier three QBs and selected Grayson who many believed was a top second round type of prospect. Grayson comes from a pro style offense and should be a quick studyif he can adjust to the NFL from the Mountain West which isn’t known for tough defenses.

Browns Johnson, Duke RB 5’9″ 207 Miami
Duke was thought of as a top runner, but with the position being devalued a speed back isn’t going round one anymore. He’ll be a nice change of pace in Cleveland if they can find someone to throw the ball..

Saints (from Dolphins) Williams, P.J. CB 6’0″ 194 Florida St.
PJ could have been a second or first rounder if he didn’t run into a DUI situation in the off-season. He seems to have a good head on his shoulders from what I’ve seen, he just needs to make better decisions. On the field he has all the goods coaches want especially in the run game.

49ers Harold, Eli OLB 6’3″ 247 Virginia
If he pans out as a top pass rusher, the 49ers will have a scapegoat to get away from Aldon Smith.

Here are the Titans seven new offensive players:

Marcus Mariota QB 6’4″ 222 Oregon

Let’s get right into another round of wrapping up the 2015 NFL Draft. Here are some selections of round two that I think will work out well for the respective club. Let me know if there are any you feel I missed!

Giants select Landon Collins SS Alabama
The Giants traded up and got the top rated safety of the class. He is exactly the big safety they need.

Buccaneers select Donovan Smith OT Penn State
The very next pick after Collins the Bucs get a big OL to protect Jameis Winston!

Jaguars select TJ Yeldon RB Alabama
The Jags select the lead back they desperately need after failing to find one person to emerge from the committee of Toby Gerhart and Denard Robinson.

Titans select Dorial Green-Beckham WR Mizzou
DGB to Tennessee! And just like that the Titans suddenly have an exciting young offense with Mariota, DGB, and Kendall Wright.

Bengals select Jake Fisher OT Oregon
Some people had Fisher going in the first. The interesting thing about this pick is that the Bengals drafted two straight tackles in this draft (Cedric Ogbuehi being the other) while both of the starting veteran tackles are on the last year of their current deals. Oh how that rookie cap backfired for the vets…

Lions select Ameer Abdullah RB Nebraska
Abdullah is going to be the replacement for Reggie Bush in this fast paced offense.

Ravens select Maxx Williams TE Minnesota
The Ravens needed a TE badly after making due with veterans Dennis Pitta and Owen Daniels last season, who both suffered injuries. Williams is going to compliment Joe Flacco and first round pick Breshad Perriman very well.

The 2015 Draft is in the books. It was a very exciting weekend for all the fans of Chicago to finally be able to experience the draft after many decades of New York City’s and the Radio City Music Hall venue.

Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed this draft. There weren’t many surprises but the few surprises we got were well worth the wait. For the record I got 9 picks of round 1 correct, and should have had 12 had I not over thought it.

With that said, let’s get to some of the most exciting picks of the round:

5. Washington- Brandon Scherff, OT, Iowa
The Skins drafted defense heavily but invested their first selection on the top lineman in the draft. Oddly, a passer was not drafted so this is RG3’s last chance.

18. Kansas City Chiefs- Marcus Peters, CB, Washington
KC needed a DB with the loss of Eric Berry. It’s just surprising they’d go for Peters who many thought was not going to be a first rounder due to off the field stuff.

23. Denver Broncos (traded from Lions)- Shane Ray, DE, Missouri
Shane Ray slips and out of all teams he’s drafted by the Denver Broncos. This is almost too good of a situation with Von Miller and Demarcus Ware on deck!

26. Baltimore Ravens- Breshad Perriman, WR, Central Florida
The player most comparable to Torrey Smith gets drafted by the same team.

28. Detroit Lions(traded from Broncos)- Laken Tomlinson, G, Duke
This pick is interesting because… nope! I’ll let someone else cook with that story.

29. Indianapolis Colts- Phillip Dorsett, WR, Miami
The Colts have no need for a first round WR with TY Hilton and Andre Johnson. Dorsett is going to be seeing nothing but single coverage with no help most of the time. The Colts are quickly building an absolutely scary offense around Andrew Luck.

What do the latest incidents regarding prospects Randy Gregory and Shane Ray mean for their draft stock? In case you have not heard, each of these two pass rushers found their names in the media for marijuana related offenses.

First is Randy Gregory who apparently failed a test at the combine, and also lost a considerable amount of weight during the draft process:

Mike Mayock of NFL Network said today that he has talked to personnel people on several teams picking in the late first round who now believe Gregory could be available when they pick. As a result, those teams are having internal conversations in which the personnel people are talking to the owners about whether Gregory — who failed a marijuana test at the Combine — is the kind of person they want representing their franchise.

In my opinion, Randy Gregory’s draft stock was going to slip regardless. The positive test doesn’t have anything to do with scouts seeing a guy that simply got dominated in the run game. Remember Melvin Gordon set a NCAA rushing record against that same Nebraska team. This is the same reason I don’t think Eli Harlod will be a first rounder either (watch the Louisville game, they ran straight at Harlod the entire first quarter.)

Teams don’t want to pick a 220 lb. pass rusher with a premium top 15 pick. Positive test or not, Gregory isn’t the type of player teams invest that guaranteed money and 5th year option into.

Then there is Shane Ray who pulled the worst move of this draft season, getting cited for marijuana three days before the NFL draft:

Ray’s draft stock began to fall when teams showed increasing concern about a foot injury he suffered in the final game of his college career, and now his stock has plummeted so severely that there’s talk that Ray not only won’t go in the first round, but might not even go in the second or third rounds. According to former Buccaneers General Manager Mark Dominik, Ray’s recent marijuana citation makes it possible that Ray won’t be drafted until the fourth round.

Again, this has more to do with something else. Ray by all accounts is a good character guy off the field and hundreds of NFL players have been caught up in this same now minor legal situation. The problem with Ray is the uncertainty around his foot. In a perfect world Shane Ray is a top 10 pick easily, and goes no later than 13 to New Orleans.

The fact that there are conflicting reports as to whether Ray needs surgery on his toe/foot or not is enough for some teams to take him off the board completely. One of the golden rules of the draft is to avoid selecting players that are already injured. Ray dominated in one-on-one pass rushing situations but a toe/foot is much different than an ACL. This is an injury he may never 100% recover from in one way or another. Again, teams are going to avoid locking in a four year contract on a guy with an injury that may prove to be a constant nuisance.

A lot talks and debates are going around the NFL News, with several players already declaring their entries for the 2015 NFL Draft. With the shake-up of both professional NFL players, Marcus Mariota and Jameis Winston, a month ago, the upcoming NFL Draft for 2015 has finally revealed its top prospect player who will be soon be absorbed by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as their consensual pick.

Although, previously, Todd McShay of ESPN, has pointed Mariota as the top pick during his mock draft in December for the upcoming NFL battle for this year, rumors have been confirmed that it will be Winston instead for this coming season.

This has not been the paths for the two professional players; just recently, Jameis Winston has dramatically fallen down on his feet as he was suspended for one game as punishment for an uncontrolled scenario when he shouted out obscenity on campus. Almost everything did not go in favor of Marcus Mariota, on the other hand, as scouts were disappointed about his performance during college football championship game.

After grabbing his attention with his recent actions, Winston is apparently making some changes about his off-field concerns, which is evidently acknowledged by the scouts through his budding chance to play as the number 1 pick for the NFL 2015 Draft.

Mel Kiper Jr. of ESPN, Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com, Charlie Campbell of WaterFootball.com and Peter Schrager of FoxSports.com have, all together, realized Winston’s promising performance in the field if his personal issues as well as battles were to be set aside.

Kiper even said that Winston is the most advanced on-field quarterback in the draft but until he realizes this fact and try to deal with his off-field matters, he may, somehow blow the opportunity to convince the teams that he can actually be the franchise leader.

Furthermore, Winston’s as well as Mariota’s performance were even paralleled citing that the former is a better prospect if given the chance to prove himself. Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com stressed out further that having ideal size, arm, touch and strength, Winston is, undoubtedly, ready to play on Day 1 of the most-awaited NFL Season this year.

However, looking into Mariota’s place, experts felt that he has gone so far down as he may be the second pick for the Tennessee Titans or he may fall at no. 6 for the New York Jets. This is a brighter side for other interested teams such as the Philadelphia Eagles and Chip Kelly’s, former head coach of Mariota as they will be having a great chance to take the pick for his professional play in the field of football.

This is relatively a much easier as well as achievable move for Mariota as he can definitely wing for No. 4 or 5 as compared to swaying for the No. 1 pick.

As the NFL 2015 Draft nearly approaches, experts, fans, sports enthusiasts as well as the NFL teams are keeping their strands on the news for Jameis Winston and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as well as with Mariota’s fate with his play in the field. With this interesting news, it is understandable how people are craving for updates every now and then.
