2008 Draft #1 Pick Jake Long to Likely Hit Free Agency

In life it is not about what happens to you, it’s about how you react to what happens to you. Or as a battle rapper would put it, “its not about the fall off, it’s about the get back…”

I started this article with those words because it looks like Miami Dolphin’s former #1 pick Jake Long is at a crossroads in his career. After being placed on IR in what can only be categorized as a down year, PFT is reporting that Long will be allowed to hit unrestricted free agency this summer:

Long, the first overall pick in the 2008 NFL draft, becomes an unrestricted free agent in March, and if the Dolphins want to put the franchise tag on him, they’d need to guarantee him $15.3 million for 2013. That would be a huge investment for an offensive lineman whose play has declined this season in new coach Joe Philbin’s offense.

Chances are there will be MULTIPLE teams looking to make it rain on the 2008 NFL Draft’s first pick. Who do I think will be in the running?

  • Chicago Bears
  • Arizona Cardinals
  • Philadelphia Eagles
