Updated 2011 Heisman Race (11/14)

So another week of college football is in the books and we have a much clearer look at the Heisman standings. Andrew Luck and Kellen Moore finally took their first losses of the season, as Justin Blackmon and Brandon Weeden both propelled themselves right into the thick of things. Our former 5th man in the race, Tyrann Mathieu, has pretty much been idle which shows you how hard it is for a defensive player to win the Heisman without scoring touchdowns week in and week out.

With that said, here is the current look at our updated 2011 Heisman standings:

5. Kellen Moore QB Boise State
Kellen Moore has been done in by a kicker yet again. Kind of sad, but the Heisman isn’t a sympathy contest. The only way he was going to win the Heisman is if some way Boise ended up in the BCS title game. That is not the case, but it’s still been a wonderful season for Kellen regardless.

4. Case Keenum QB Houston
Another week, another record falls. If Keenum and #11 Houston win the Conference USA then he undoubtedly will get a few more first place votes.

For those of you living under a rock, Case Keenum’s monster stats now compile 3951 yards, 37 touchdowns, and just 3 ints. Video game numbers.

3. Trent Richardson RB Alabama
Yes, Alabama lost the “Game of the Century” and Trent Richardson had a pretty pedestrian performance.

With that said he he still displayed excellence in one of the harder conferences in the nation, the $EC and you cannot throw him completely off the rankings for a mis-step.

2. Brandon Weeden QB Oklahoma State
Weeden debuts on our list at #2! The Cowboys of Oklahoma State are staring a BCS title game birth cold in the eye, with one team in their way: Oklahoma. Weeden has thrown for over 3600 yards with 31 touchdowns and just 9 ints. A win December 3rd over Oklahoma and you might as well have Erin Andrews hand him the Heisman right after the game.

Side note: Justin Blackmon should get some consideration as well, but as a quarterback the positional advantage goes to Weeden.

1. Andrew Luck QB Stanford
The Heisman committee will have a hard time not giving the trophy to Andrew Luck. After sitting there first row for THE ICON AND ENTERTAINER’s win, you knew that one of the many reasons Luck came back to college football was to win his own Heisman. His team did lose this week but Luck finishes the season with Cal and a nice stat stuffing opportunity at Notre Dame.
