RG3 is headed to the Cleveland Browns. Alfred Morris is a Dallas Cowboy. That’s right, the Washington Redskins have finally said goodbye to the former faces of the franchise and handed the keys to Kirk Cousins on a one year franchise deal. Can Kirk and Jay Gruden lead the Redskins to the promise land? We’ll have to see, but the Skins seem to be on a positive projection forward.

The Nation’s Capital needs some help defensively so hopefully they make some pick ups in the draft. Names like David Bruton don’t exactly have the fanbase energized quite yet.

What do the fans want to see in DC? Glad you asked.

Draftp has blessed us with part four of his Ultimate Redskins mock draft series.

Check out the picks below:

It’s been some time since my last posted mock draft but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been working on my draft. Lately I’ve been mocking my butt off on Fanspeak and this mock draft I’m posting is based off of CBS sports latest draft board posted 3/22. Post comments…

1. Redskins: Vernon Butler DT LA Tech

Rd. 1, pick 21. The Redskins select DT Vernon Butler 6-4, 323 lbs. The Redskins need to add some youth to the defensive line. Butler has great size, can break down a pocket in a hurry. Strong bull rush, stays low, can handle the double team. Is a factor in pass rush which makes him a three down player. Pencil him in a starter day one.

2. Redskins: Nick Martin C Notre Dame

Rd. 2, pick 53. The Redskins select C Nick Martin 6-4, 299 lbs. Currently the Skins could use and upgrade a center. Martin can play both guard and center but his real value for the Redskins will be at center. Strong in pass protection but only average blocking in the run game although eye see room to improve with solid coaching. Has good feet, can handle a bull rush, picks up stunts quickly, highly competitive

3. Redskins: Pharoh Cooper WR South Carolina

Rd. 3, pick 84. The Redskins select Pharoh Cooper 5-11, 203. Although Cooper doesn’t have the size most people think the Redskins need Cooper is in fact a lethal weapon. Build like a RB Cooper is exceptionally athletic and can be used almost anywhere on offence. Has break away speed, deep threat. Kick off and punt return.

4. Redskins: Harlan Miller CB SE Louisiana

Rd. 4, pick 121. The Redskins select CB Harlan Miller 6-0, 182 lbs. Miller put himself in the draft picture with a strong showing at the Senior Bowl and saw his stock make a quick rise until a very slow 40 time at the combine bring him crashing back down to earth. Miller plays with a chip on his shoulder, has very good press skills and he’ll need that if he is going to make it in the pros. Although he is considered a project he may get new life as a FS if he fills out his frame some.

We are back with another late season Washington Redskins mock draft. The Skins are still in a three way tie for first in the NFC East (6-7) and it seems likely they may sneak into the playoffs with some good luck. Yes, the winner of this division will probably sneak into the playoffs and not deserve it at 8-8 but you have to credit the players in this division for being professionals.

So what will happen in the future going forward? Of course you know we had to check in on Draftp and his projections for the Redskins’ offseason. He just dropped a new 2016 Redskins mock that you can read below.

Enough of the intro.

Picks below:

It’s hit or miss with the Redskins this season and they can’t seem to win back to back games but somehow they still have a chance to win the NFC East. How does that happen? At the beginning of the season I predicted that the Redskins would finish the season with an 8-8 record and a chance at a playoff birth and now here in week 15 they are on pace to do just that. This mock draft is just a straight up draft with no trades. Team needs; ILB, SS, TE, DL, Pass Rusher, QB

1. Redskins: Jaylon Smith OLB Notre Dame

Rd. 1, pick 14. The Redskins select ILB/OLB Jaylon Smith 6-3, 240 lbs. Smith brings explosive speed, makes great reads, excellent tackler and a team leader, tone setter. Can take a game over. Fills a big need to sure up the middle of their defense.

2. Redskins: Hunter Henry TE Arkansas

Rd. 2, pick 47. The Redskins select TE Hunter Henry 6-5, 253 lbs. Henry is very athletic for a big man and creates match up problems for defenses. Excellent hands, willing blocker. The Redskins need to address the depth of this position. There have been to many injuries this year not to.

3. Redskins: Karl Joseph S West Virginia

Rd. 3, pick 78. The Redskins select SS Karl Joseph 5-11, 197 lbs. Joseph maybe one of the best hitters in all of college football. Plays like each down is his last. Coming off of a knee injury but he should be available at this point in the draft.

4. Redskins: Chris Jones DT Mississippi State

Rd. 4, pick 114. The Redskins select DE/DT Chris Jones 6-5, 308 lbs. Jones is just coming into his own, infectious personality, excellent physical traits NFL teams search for. Great size, length. Needs some coaching to improve some minor issues. He could be a real diamond in the rough.

You knew a black quarterback was going to be EXTREMELY popular in Washington, DC. “The DMV” is home to one of the largest African American populations in the country. Robert Griffin III coming to the area after the season he just put on in school has already blown expectations sky high.

As a matter of fact, people are already Photoshopping pics of Griffin III with the Lombardi. A little early much?

Along with that popularity comes the windfall of jersey sales. Griffin has leapfrogged Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow for that number one spot!

Popularity contests don’t generate touchdowns, but the early reception for rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III suggests the Washington Redskins might have something special on their hands — at least from a marketing perspective.

RG3 owns the league’s top-selling jersey in May, beating out Peyton Manning and Tim Tebow in the process, according to numbers from NFLShop.com, via The Washington Post.

Mike Shanahan did the same thing back when he was the coach of the Broncos, benching Jake Plummer six games into the 2006-2007 season for Jay Cutler. The Broncos did well with that swap with Cutler eventually maturing into a Pro Bowl player but what is the plan in Washington right now?!! The Redskins only other options on the current roster are John Beck and Rex Grossman. Not exactly the filet mingot of passers.

You definitely will see the Redskins acquire a passer via trade or draft this offseason. Their pick is not high enough to get Andrew Luck or Cam Newton, but Jake Locker and or Ryan Mallet will be on the board. In the trade market maybe NFC rival will give them a shot at Kevin Kolb. You never know.

What we do know is that McNabb is done, and we will see him in Minnesota, Arizona, or Oakland next year!

Word from Washington D.C. is that Coach Mike Shanahan is having Rex Grossman and Donovan McNabb split snaps with the first team offense in practice this week. This isn’t an uncommon thing if the starter has an injury, and may not be able to finish the game. Team’s like to make sure that the number two guy has knocked all the rust off during the week so he can manage a win if he has to come in emergency duty.

There is just a slight problem here.

Donovan McNabb isn’t injured, and Mike Shanahan will not name a starting quarterback for the game this weekend. Yes, the Redskins gave McNabb a “contract extension” (with the option to cut him until the first game next year with little to no cap penalty) but it still makes one wonder. Is this the beginning of the 2011 version of the Mike Shanahan “Let’s Find a Quarterback!” show?

Back in the 2006-2007 season Shanahan did the same thing with his Broncos team. Even after the incumbent starter Jake Plummer took the team to the AFC Championship game the previous season, the ‘Mastermind’ decided it wasn’t good enough and drafted Quarterback Jay Cutler in the first round anyways.

Jake struggled early in the 2006 season and was benched quickly for Cutler, never to be seen again in the NFL. Could the same thing happen to McNabb? Could Shanahan have an eye out for a replacement.

If history is any indicator you have to bet “Yes!” on that one.

Out of the quarterbacks available it would not be out the question to see the Redskins draft Jake Locker, Cam Newton, or Ryan Mallett with their first round selection. The Redskins have more pressing needs (such as getting someone to actually throw the ball to) but only the Mastermind knows what the future holds.
