I’ve been on the record thinking Nassib and Arkansas QB Tyler Wilson will be the most successful QB’s among the class, but for Lande to put him first on his big board will certainly drop some jaws. Nassib is currently projected as a second round pick, but seems to be moving up the board (use Lande’s board as proof).

Florida State DE Bjoern Werner was also given a top overall grade on Lande’s board, but Nassib was given the nod because of the importance of his position. I’m not a huge fan of Werners. I think he has all the skills to be a good DE, but I don’t see him as a perennial All-Pro. He tends to take plays off which should throw up some red flags for potential teams.

Nassib tends to be “jittery” in the pocket when defenders are in his face, but has improved his ability to read defenses every season at Syracuse. He has shown strong arm strength and propensity to make the big play when it’s needed. His accuracy is spotty at times, but his footwork has been night and day to when he was a freshman.

Buffalo Bills head coach Doug Marrone is widely credited for developing Nassib into an NFL-caliber QB. If Nassib drops past the 40th pick (the Bills second round), we’ll know his own head coach didn’t think he was a 2nd round worthy pick. Remember, players like Colin Kaepernick, Andy Dalton, and Russell Wilson all took their teams to the playoffs this season despite not being 1st-round picks.

After Nassib, Lande ranked Tyler Wilson, Matt Barkley, Mike Glennon, and Gino Smith. Gino Smith is expected to be the first QB taken off the board, but it’s a crap-shoot from there. The combine will show us a lot more once it comes. Don’t put too much stock in what teams are saying or what the combine shows. How they perform on tape will be the main factor for teams selecting their QB. It should be a fun weekend.

I don’t know. But what I do know is that with Tyler Wilson out of the game Arkansas got rolled by a potent Alabama offense on Saturday afternoon. Eddie Lacy was looking like Trent Richardson the way he was running through tackles and Bama’s young wide receivers really stepped it up to another level. Their 2012 offense looks much better than the 2011 offense that featured #3 overall pick Trent Richardson.

Either way, Wilson wasn’t pleased and had a lot to say:

“I’ll start with the football game. First of all, it wasn’t very pretty to watch. It wasn’t pretty to sit on the sideline and watch as a player, it sucks I can’t do anything about it. Do I feel that we, at times, gave up out there? Absolutely. As a leader it sucks to see people not do their jobs and to see things go wrong, there has been a lot of things go that way. As a leader, at this point you have to look forward. There has been a lot of people jump off of the bandwagon and it is my job to keep everyone in this organization and this team in that locker room together. I am going to make sure of it going forward. We’ve got a big game against Rutgers next week. I am going to do everything in my power to be a part of it and be the starting quarterback when we run out onto the field. And most importantly, get a win. You have to start with one before you can get the rest of them. I give you my word, I am going to do the best I can to make that happen.”

The week-long watch that’s been the health and availability of Tyler Wilson has unofficially ended, with one report surfacing that the senior quarterback has been ruled out for Saturday’s game against No. 1 Alabama.

“I’m told that Tyler Wilson has not been cleared and will not play on Saturday vs. Alabama,” Fayetteville radio personality Bo Mattingly wrote on Twitter Friday morning.

Arkansas360.com subsequently confirmed, through multiple sources, it’s not expected Wilson will play.

This won’t hurt his draft stock, as long as he eventually heals up and plays like himself again which is going to happen.

After coming into the weekend ranked No. 8 and considered to be one of the contenders for not only an SEC title but perhaps the national title, Arkansas suffered a 34-31 overtime stumble to the Warhawks and are now unranked.

The drop in polls was salt in an already festering wound. During the game, Arkansas lost quarterback Tyler Wilson and cornerback Tevin Mitchel to head injuries. Both were admitted into the hospital in Little Rock and were kept overnight for observation. According to the university, Mitchel will continue to be monitored in the hospital while Wilson will be released and is day-to-day.

I think we can all agree that Wilson supplanted himself as a top QB prospect in the 2013 draft with the season that he put up that saw Arkansas go 11-2 only losing to the two teams that played for the National Title LSU and Alabama.

Tyler threw for 3628 yards on 63% passing with 24 TD’s and just 6 interceptions. He also added 175 rushing yards and 4 TD’s on just 60 attempts.

There is no doubt that Tyler’s accuracy (though streaky at times) and mobility have him pegged as one of the top 3 QB’s behind Matt Barkley including Tennessee’s Tyler Bray and Virgina Tech’s Logan Thomas.

If somehow Tyler can lead Arkansas to a National Title game this upcoming season in the wake of Bobby Petrino’s absence we may be looking at the #2 overall draft pick. At the very least with another excellent season Wilson will go in the top 10 easily.
