Mets sign Tim Tebow to minor-league contract

Tim Tebow is coming back to New York.

The Mets signed the former quarterback to a minor-league contact, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed.

Tebow, who worked out for 28 MLB teams last week in California, will head to the Instructional League or Arizona Fall League next, according to ESPN.

I feel sorry for NY fans who have to hear about Tebow 24/7 again. But at least you still have the GOAT city anthem:

Well, not exactly. According to a few Facebook and Twitter posts Tebow was on a plane where a man had a cardiac issue and miraculously survived.

Whether or not Tebow’s prayer worked is a completely different post I don’t want to get into but props to him for consoling the family and keeping everything calm. In a moment like that you never know how you’re going to react so having a person grounded in faith like Tebow is always a plus.

Kelly said that without a doubt the Eagles would be adding another QB and within 24 hours he’s made good on that promise. Kelly will be welcoming former Miami QB Stephen Morris as the active roster’s 53rd man and 3rd QB:

I guess this means that Morris is better than Tebow. At least in Chip Kelly’s eyes that seems to be the case.

The Philadelphia Eagles have announced they are releasing the former University of Florida quarterback as they cut down to 53 for opening night:

“Tim’s really progressed but we didn’t feel like he was good enough to be the three right now,” Kelly said. “He just needs to get out there and get more reps.”

Kind of harsh words from Chip. “Not good enough,” is something I would have been killed for describing Tebow as when he was with the Broncos but now we can all openly say the guy isn’t good and not get attacked.

It’s funny how the Tebowmanics seemed to shrink drastically in numbers over the years. And that’s wrong. If you’re a fan of the guy be a fan of the guy whether he is in the league, preaching a sermon, or commentating on a college football game. All this fair weather stuff is really lame if you ask me.

Tebow seemed to have found his grove in the final preseason game versus the Jets (another former Tebow team.)

Tebow played very well tonight against the Jets, completing 11 of 17 passes for 189 yards, with two touchdowns and one interception, plus 32 yards rushing on four carries. Matt Barkley, who started tonight’s game, did not play nearly as well, going just 4-for-9 for 45 yards, with no touchdowns and one interception. Barkley did not run the ball.

However, it’s unclear whether tonight’s preseason game will be the difference. Barkley has been ahead of Tebow on the depth chart to date, and Tebow still has flaws as a passer.

It’s looking like whether or not Tim makes the Eagles someone will have a roster spot for him. The longer, riskier, one point extra point makes Tim a nice option to have for two point conversions.

Will Tim make the final 53 man roster? That’s totally up to him and the other quarterbacks but as long as he has a chance you just never know. Tebowmania could be about to run wild and you don’t even know it, brother!

Even if Tim is just around to throw some passes during preseason you cannot deny that the league is just a little more exicting when he’s around. The constant “can he or can’t he?” debates never get old. By the way, Tebow has chosen jersey number #11.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — It’s Tebow Time in the City of Brotherly Love.

Tim Tebow is expected to sign a one-year contract with the Eagles on Monday, according to three people familiar with the deal. The people spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity Sunday because the contract hasn’t been finalized.

Tebow hasn’t played in the NFL since 2012 with the New York Jets. He was released by the New England Patriots before the 2013 season and spent last year working in television as an analyst for the SEC Network and ESPN.

There is no secret that Chip Kelly is intrigued by Tebow. Many coaches have been attracted by Tebows versatility but nor Josh McDaniels or Rex Ryan have pulled much out of Tebow’s athletic gifts.

Lets get to why you’re here though. You want me to rant and tell you how much I think Tebow sucks but I am not going to do that. Tebow was overdrafted and subsequently cut from three NFL teams, there is really nothing to see here.

As far am I concerned this is just much adieu about absolutely nothing. Or as Wale would say, “The Free Agent About Nothing.” Tebow gets some buzz around your team for a few days. Until he makes a squad this is simply a case of another team giving a guy a chance to play a position he simply isn’t cut for at the professional level.

Will the Eagles trade Sam Bradford and get another quarterback? Maybe. There are rumors the team has staged his locker to quell trade rumors. One thing is certain though, if Philly moves on from Bradford it certainly won’t be to re-create TEBOWMANIA.

Brady Quinn, Tim Tebow, and Michael Sam were among the biggest names available. Also were names you may remember from the past such as Felix Jones and Michael Bush.

The Embarrassing 40 Times

Several of these players proved that they were pretty much done athletically. The average 40 time for the running backs was about a 4.8, which in perspective would be impressive for a 300 lb. offensive lineman.

No Room for VY

Legendary University of Texas quarterback Vince Young applied for the combine and actually wasn’t invited. I hate to say it but it looks like this is the end of the road for VY.

One Man Got Signed

All in all, one man got signed. That’s right only one. That man was 22 year old receiver Nathan Slaughter out of West Texas A&M who signed with the Arizona Cardinals.

The Patriots still have to cut down to 53 and it is unlikely Tebow makes that roster as a full-time quarterback, but it is a feel good story nonetheless.

This is Tebow’s last NFL stop so let’s milk this for what it’s worth:

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — Tim Tebow has one game left to improve his chances of staying with the New England Patriots after surviving the mandatory roster cut to 75 players on Tuesday.

Tebow is expected to see considerable playing time Thursday night against the New York Giants in the Patriots’ final exhibition game. He played poorly in the first two games and did not play in the third.

The third-string quarterback faces another hurdle when all NFL teams must reduce their rosters on Saturday to the regular-season limit of 53. The Patriots can still juggle their roster between then and their opener on Sept. 8 against the Bills in Buffalo.
