The future of Texas Longhorns football just got even brighter with the commitment of Dia Bell, a five-star quarterback prospect from American Heritage High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The son of former NBA veteran Raja Bell, Dia has quickly established himself as one of the top recruits in the 2026 class.

According to 247Sports, Bell holds a 98 rating and ranks as the No. 5 quarterback and No. 24 overall player nationally. His 247Sports Composite rating is an impressive 0.9914, placing him as the No. 3 quarterback and No. 12 overall player in the country.

At 6-foot-2 with poise, arm talent, and athletic pedigree, Bell has drawn attention not just for his performance on the field, but also for his leadership and maturity beyond his years. His commitment to Texas adds to Steve Sarkisian’s already strong quarterback room and signals the program’s continued dominance on the recruiting trail.

With deep ties to elite athleticism and a rapidly rising profile, Dia Bell is a name to watch as one of the faces of the 2026 recruiting cycle—and potentially, the future of Longhorn football.

Quinn Ewers is considered one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2022 recruiting class. He has a strong arm, good accuracy, and the ability to make plays with his feet.

Some have compared his playing style and potential to that of former Ohio State quarterback and current NFL starter Justin Fields. Ewers will likely have a bright future at the college level and could potentially become a high draft pick in the NFL if he continues to develop.

Vitals

Height: 6’2″

Weight: 205 lbs

Class: Sophomore (RS)

Projected Draft Range: 1st Round

Overview

Quinn Ewers is one of the most hyped quarterbacks in college football, known for his natural arm talent, poise, and playmaking ability. As a former five-star recruit and top high school prospect, Ewers possesses all the physical tools desired in a pro-style NFL quarterback. His time at Texas has showcased his elite arm strength, confidence, and ability to perform under pressure. However, he will need to fine-tune his mechanics and improve his consistency in high-pressure situations to maximize his NFL potential.

Strengths

Exceptional Arm Talent: Ewers boasts elite arm strength, allowing him to make throws to all areas of the field. He can deliver high-velocity passes and throw deep with accuracy, effortlessly reaching his targets. His arm strength allows him to hit tight windows that many quarterbacks cannot, making him a big-play threat on any down.

Natural Thrower with Quick Release: Ewers’ mechanics are smooth, with a quick, compact throwing motion. He can throw accurately from various platforms, showing excellent balance and control on off-schedule throws. His quick release helps him beat defenders to tight windows, especially in quick-passing situations.

Pocket Presence and Poise: Ewers has shown an impressive ability to stand tall in the pocket, even when facing pressure. He keeps his eyes downfield, maneuvering the pocket skillfully to buy time for his receivers to get open. His poise in high-pressure moments shows a maturity beyond his years and is one of his standout qualities.

Accuracy and Ball Placement: Ewers has demonstrated excellent touch and precision, especially on intermediate throws and deep routes. His ball placement allows his receivers to make plays after the catch, and he has a knack for putting the ball where only his target can reach it. His accuracy shines when he’s in rhythm and allowed to make quick decisions.

Playmaking Ability and Confidence: Ewers plays with a confidence that often translates into big plays. He’s willing to take risks, threading throws into tight coverage and challenging defenders deep. This fearless style can turn a stalled drive into a big gain quickly, giving his team a chance to score on any possession.

Areas for Improvement

Consistency in Decision-Making: While Ewers has great arm talent, he occasionally forces throws or attempts risky passes, especially under pressure. His confidence can lead him to take unnecessary risks rather than opting for safer options, which has led to interceptions. Developing better situational awareness and field vision will help him avoid costly mistakes in the NFL.

Mechanics and Footwork: Ewers has a tendency to rely on his arm talent rather than his footwork, which can lead to inconsistent throws. Improving his lower-body mechanics will help him deliver more accurate passes consistently and improve his control, especially on timing routes and throws over the middle.

Pressure Management: Although Ewers is generally poised in the pocket, his decision-making can become inconsistent under heavy pressure. When faced with relentless pressure, he sometimes reverts to risky plays rather than throwing the ball away or taking the check-down. Enhancing his ability to manage pressure will be important as NFL defenses will capitalize on any lapses in judgment.

Injury Concerns: Ewers has dealt with some injury issues during his time at Texas, which has raised questions about his durability. NFL teams will want to see that he can stay healthy and productive through a full season to ensure he can withstand the rigors of a professional schedule.

NFL Comparison

Quinn Ewers’ skill set has drawn comparisons to quarterbacks like Derek Carr or Matthew Stafford due to his arm talent, quick release, and potential to make big plays. Like Stafford, Ewers has the tools to deliver pinpoint throws from multiple angles, but will need to refine his decision-making to reach his ceiling.

Summary

Quinn Ewers is a top-tier quarterback prospect with the arm talent, poise, and playmaking skills that NFL teams covet. His natural throwing ability and knack for making big plays make him a potential franchise quarterback, especially in a pro-style offense that values downfield passing. However, to reach his full potential at the NFL level, he will need to improve his decision-making under pressure, refine his footwork, and prove his durability. With the right development, Ewers has the potential to be a high-impact starter in the NFL and a cornerstone player for a quarterback-needy franchise.

Bijan Robinson is a dynamic running back prospect with excellent vision, agility, and breakaway speed. Standing at 6’0″ and weighing 215 pounds, Robinson has a solid frame that can withstand the physicality of the NFL. He played for the University of Texas and was a standout performer in the Big 12 conference.

Robinson has the ability to make defenders miss in the open field and can break off big runs with ease. He is also a reliable pass-catching option out of the backfield with soft hands and the ability to make plays after the catch. Robinson’s work ethic and attention to detail make him a coach’s dream, as he is always looking for ways to improve and get better.

While there are concerns about his ability to handle a full workload and his pass-blocking skills, Robinson’s elite athleticism and natural talent make him a top prospect in the 2023 NFL draft. He compares favorably to former NFL running back Jamaal Charles, with his blend of speed, agility, and vision. Any team in need of a dynamic playmaker in the backfield should strongly consider drafting Robinson.

D’Onta Foreman is a possible first-second round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. He is one of the bright spots on a struggling Longhorns team this season who took a loss to Kansas. For the record, it has been two years since Kansas beat anyone in the FBS so… yeah.

D’Onta went to twitter to voice his opinion on the gameplan:

Getting the ball 50 times was my role tonight and I'll never complain or ask for a change. I lay everything on the line for this team!

Looks like he isn’t too upset about it. Yes those carries all add up and take their toll (see Adrian Foster’s up and down pro career) but if Foreman is up to it let him do it. He knows the risks and is willing to do whatever it takes to help Texas be great again.

Though others were not so happy about the developments:

Getting the ball 50 times should NEVER be your role … smh, we have other play makers !
Yes, there was that one guy the Rams picked but besides that NO PLAYERS FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS were selected in the 2014 NFL Draft. NONE. ZIP. ZERO. ZILCH!

Garrett Gilbert was selected in the sixth round by the Rams (what guy did you think I was talking about) but he does not count because he transferred to SMU. Jackson Jeffcoat was an option but ultimately every team passed on the pass rusher.

We’ll see what happens but Texas has their work cut out for them right now.

Many, many, many questions with little or no answers. In a way it seems like he was destined to be an enigma from day one. A few weeks ago the near 30 quarterback even attended a University of Texas Pro Day…. as a competitor. The reviews were solid but no one gave him a shot.

VY may be on to the next phase in his life but at least he went out swinging and accomplished his college degree which is a positive note to go out on (if it’s over):

“This will rank No. 1 because it is what I came to school for,” Young told Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com on Thursday night. “I came here to get an education, and to win a national championship. And now, I get to put that smile on my mom’s face.”

Despite a team that struggles time-to-time around him on defense, Jackson was putting together a nice 2013 Draft campaign for himself.

Now all of that is over due to a pectoral injury. Sad to see him go down halfway through the year:

Jackson Jeffcoat will miss the remainder of the 2012 season due to a right pectoral rupture suffered in the Red River Blowout loss to Oklahoma. The junior missed spring practice earlier this year due to a rupture of his left pectoral muscle suffered in the November game against Texas A&M that, after he played two more games, ultimately required surgery.

This is the same injury Elvis Dumervil suffered about a year or so ago and never quite returned to his 20 sack form. The fact that Jackson has had this injury twice will definitely raise a medical red flag on him. As a matter of fact, I can tell you for certain that recurring injuries like this will have at least one team take him completely off the draft board.

He still has a year of eligibility left at Texas so we’ll see what he decides to do. If he were to ask YA BOY I’d tell him go into the draft if the advisory board gives him anything higher than a 4th round grade.

Case McCoy isn’t the only backup quarterback to play so far. David Ash has gotten some PT as well, but McCoy has gotten the lions share of snaps away from Gilbert.

I guess the future is now in Texas.
