Hakeem Nicks Was Ineligible to Play at UNC

The fact that so much has come out about UNC does not surprise me one bit. I had a good source close to the program that told me of some of the things those guys were doing that are now public information and my first thought was, “Do they really think they are going to get away with that?” See there is a big difference between getting some free tats or a loaner car, and taking weekend trips to Miami like no one noticed #notsnitching.

Anyways, word is now coming out that Hakeem Nicks was ineligible during his last year. Apparently a tutor was doing his classwork for him. If you went to a D-1 school like YA BOY you aren’t even going to bat an eye at this as it is incredibly common… #notsnitching

“The investigation confirmed that the former tutor had committed academic fraud with an on behalf of student-athletes 1, 2 and 3 during the 2008-09 academic year and the summer of 2009. Regarding student-athlete 1, a review of email communications revealed that on April 21, 2008, the former tutor wrote conclusion paragraphs for five of student-athlete 1′s writing assignments in an education course,” the NCAA infractions report says. “By the time the violations were discovered, student-athlete 1 was no longer enrolled at the institution, so no further action was taken.”

That still wont take away from THE CATCH….

2012 Combine: Zach Brown Runs a 4.45 40 Time

I just stumbled on Twitter to see Zach Brown trending. I totally had no idea why, until I checked to see what was going on at the combine and was mildly surprised to see him run a 4.45 40 yard dash time.

Everyone already knew Zach was fast so this shouldn’t really be a big surprise but I did say in my combine predictions that he was one of the players that could help himself the most in Indy.

UNC WR Dwight Jones Suspended For Planning To Make It Rain at Birthday Party

The NCAA is wild sometimes. You can’t dance in the endzone, you cant dance before you get to the endzone, and you can’t even accept a free pizza or tattoo if you are an athlete. We’ve seen things as trivial as Demariyus Thomas getting busted for accepting $300 in shirts and pants AFTER he graduated. Now you can’t even make it rain at your own private party in peace. That’s what UNC WR Dwight Jones learned the hard way:

The University of North Carolina on Tuesday declared Dwight Jones, the Tar Heels leading receiver, ineligible for the Independence Bowl after Jones allowed his name and image to be used to promote a party in Burlington, his hometown.

NCAA rules prohibit athletes from allowing their name or image to be used to promote an off-campus business or for-profit entity. Jones committed a secondary NCAA violation when he allowed his name and image to promote a birthday party in his honor on New Year’s Eve.

UNC has applied to the NCAA for Jones’ reinstatement. Jones apologized in a statement and said the party has been canceled.

I can see where the issue is. The NCAA doesn’t like the fact that Jones’ is going to make money off his OWN IMAGE. But the thing is, if his athletic duties are fulfilled isn’t this a moot point? This isn’t like a Sophomore doing this then coming back in the fall. This is a Senior celebrating after his final game.

December 26th is Dwight Jones’ final day as a collegiate football player.

The party is December 31st.

Problem?
