In a surprising turn of events on ESPN’s flagship show, First Take, renowned sports commentator Stephen A. Smith found himself at the center of a heated on-air debate involving former NBA player Kendrick Perkins and retired basketball star JJ Redick. The discussion, initially intended to focus on the NBA MVP race, took an unexpected turn when Perkins introduced the topic of race into the conversation, leading to an uncomfortable exchange that left viewers stunned.

The incident occurred during a segment dedicated to discussing the frontrunners for the NBA MVP award, with Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic emerging as the leading candidate. As the discussion progressed, Kendrick Perkins, known for his outspoken nature, seized the opportunity to address what he perceived as a racial bias in the MVP voting process.

Perkins highlighted the fact that Jokic, a Serbian player, was leading the MVP race, while a significant majority of the voters were white. He raised concerns about a potential racial disparity in how the award was being evaluated, sparking a contentious debate on a sensitive subject.

Unbeknownst to Perkins, his remarks struck a nerve with guest commentator JJ Redick, who was also present on the show. Redick, known for his strong stance on racial issues and social justice, passionately confronted Perkins, asserting that race should not play a role in determining the MVP. The discussion quickly became heated, with both Redick and Perkins exchanging pointed remarks.

Stephen A. Smith, who is no stranger to handling intense debates on his show, attempted to mediate the situation. However, the tension escalated beyond his control, leading to an uncomfortable on-air clash that left viewers divided and concerned about the direction the conversation had taken.

In the aftermath of the incident, Stephen A. Smith reflected on the situation during an appearance on the Bill Simmons podcast. Admitting that he allowed the discussion to become excessively heated, Smith took responsibility for not effectively steering the conversation back to a more constructive and respectful tone. He acknowledged the need for better moderation in order to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.

The incident involving Stephen A. Smith, Kendrick Perkins, and JJ Redick serves as a reminder of the challenges and complexities that arise when discussing sensitive topics like race in sports. It is important to address issues of racial equity, as well as it is equally crucial to maintain a productive dialogue that fosters understanding.

As the sports world continues to grapple with issues of race and representation, it is incumbent upon commentators, athletes, broadcasters, and producers such as Stephen A. himself to handle such discussions with care, recognizing the potential for tension and striving for open and constructive dialogue that moves us towards a more inclusive and equitable future.

Bryant is a super talented WR and with a healthy squad of him, Ben, Antonio, and LeVeon Bell the Steelers can beat anyone. It is just a shame he cant “stay off da weeeeeed” man.

Click play below to listen to Stephen A. give another one of his hilarious doses of truth:

Stephen A Smith has taken a lot of flack for his comments on the “Black Lives Matter” hash tag, but apparently he has hit his breaking point. Stephen’s usual fence-sitter “there is black on black crime too” opinion has apparently been thrown after watching the video in which Laquan McDonald was shot 16 times execution style by Chicago police…

….allegedly.

I really have no comments on this that haven’t been expressed by other people who are disgusted by the waste of life that select rogue officers have displayed on some of these video tapes. I’m not personally a supporter of marching and protesting as a response nor am I advocating anarchy but this is crazy. Stephen is right, something needs to be done. Politically we need to protect citizens from these rogue elements.
