2012 NFL Combine Opens in Indy

February 22-28th the NFL will hold it’s annual scouting combine in Indianapolis, Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium. Prospects from all of college football have been invited to workout for their prospective new employers in hopes of being drafted to the NFL.

You know the story by now… unknown player no one hears about runs a sub 4.4 40 yard dash, gets hyped to no end on ESPN, only to go to the league and do squat. There is a reason we have the term workout warrior and it’s not a compliment. It seems that while the combine is still great for getting a player’s true vitals (height, weight, speed, body type) GM’s and scouts are Continue reading

Brady Quinn Comments on Tim Tebow And It’s Not Nice

When the Broncos were winning games, Tebow fans could not be told otherwise that Tim had some kind of magic that simply made everyone better. All rational was thrown out the window as the Broncos found a way to win games in which their Quarterback only completed 2 passes in one contest, 8 in another, and less than 46% of all throws. On paper the team wasn’t supposed to win with those type of stats at the QB position but facts are facts, somehow they won. According to former Broncos QB Brady Quinn, luck could be a big reason why.

It is a breath of fresh air to finally get some perspective and honesty in the media on the whole Tebowmania thing, and from a former player nonetheless.

Here is what Quinn said in an interview with GQ Mag: Continue reading

Robert Griffin III Signs to Adidas

I saw #RG3 trending on Twitter, and wondered why it was a sponsored tweet. I am pretty sure Robert Griffin III wouldn’t take such extreme measures to get his name mentioned on Twitter. He already moved his workout one day before Andrew Luck’s. So when I clicked it to see that Adidas was promoting him I was pleasantly surprised.

Browns Focusing In on Robert Griffin III?

According to a report over at Pro Football Talk, the Cleveland Browns have narrowed their down to five prospects, and the odds on favorite looks to be trading up for Baylor’s Robert Griffin III.

The quintet consists, per Cabot, of Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III (pictured), Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon, Alabama running back Trent Richardson, LSU cornerback Morris Claiborne, and Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill.

The Browns could trade up for Griffin. Or they could Continue reading

2012 NFL Draft: Alshon Jeffrey and Vontaze Burfict Not First Rounders?!

All I can say is wow. I knew both of these players were sliding, but have Alshon Jeffrey and Vontaze Burfict slid all the way out of round one? We will have to see during draft time what exactly happens, but for now all I can do is comment on what may be going on.

First and fore most, Alshon Jeffrey’s stock is going to slide because of his perceived weight issues. I have seen rumors that Jeffrey is teetering above 240 these days, and I have also seen those rumors strongly refuted and statements saying that Jeffrey is going to come into the combine at the best shape of his career. I expect him to come in the combine in shape around 225-230. There is no way Jeffrey is going to let himself get out of control weeks before Continue reading

2012 NFL Mock Draft: Draft Deepest At DT

It’s very interesting what the draft pundits are starting to say as we are a week away from the combine in Indy. I don’t think I will be going this year, but if you are going and want to be a road correspondent for MDHQ please feel free to contact us.

Going into the draft you are starting to see mock drafts shape up more and more. One thing that I’ve seen that hasn’t settled is the place of tackles like DT Devin Still, Dontari Poe and Jerel Worthy. I’ve seen them mocked as highly as top 10, to all the way in the late 20′s and second round.

According to NFL Insider Mike Mayock, defensive tackle just may be the strongest position in the whole draft. So for teams looking for help at DT that don’t want to roll the dice on a guy like Albert Haynesworth they will have plenty of options to choose from in the college draft. Here is what he said:

2012 NFL Draft: Ryan Tannehill Expected To Go Solidly In the First Round

If you have been wondering where I have been, I have been losing hours of sleep coding up something totally new and awesome for everyone here at MDHQ. It will be debuting in a few days or so. I am SUPER excited to get that out.

On to today’s news. It seems like everyone has a different opinion on Ryan Tannehill from Texas A&M. Some people think he is a top 10 pick, some thing he is barely a first rounder, and others think he is more of a third round guy. From everything that I have read, Tannehill is going to be a first round guy. He is rated #16 overall on Scouts Inc’s top 32 board, and recently draft expert Mike Mayock chimed in with this commentary: Continue reading

Randy Back: Randy Moss Unretires, Expects to Play in 2012

Ever since the day Randy Moss retired, I knew he was going to come back. You could just see it in his face when he had the likes of Rusty Smith and Kerry Collins throwing him passes, that Moss couldn’t wait to get up out of Tennessee. During the season a host of rumors of a return with the Saints were floated around which ended up being nothing more than smoke. But where there is smoke… there is eventually a fire. And that fire is Continue reading

Mark Barron Will Not Participate In the NFL Combine

Alabama safety Mark Barron is having a metoric rise up the draft boards. After Bama’s win over LSU many people have projected Barron to go in the middle of the first round to a team like the Jets, Cowboys, or even my Denver Broncos (wouldn’t mind that at all).

Anyways, Barron has sufered a little setback with a recent injury. Mark will undergo hernia surgery and will Continue reading

Vincent Jackson Likely Done in San Diego

The way San Diego played in 2011, you knew that some sort of major change would be on the way. Obviously the team isn’t going to get rid of Philip Rivers or Ryan Mattthews at this point so many people speculated that a lot of shuffling would go on the defensive side out in San Diego. However according to a new report the 2012 Chargers may look really different. And by really different, I mean missing their 6’5 starting wide receiver Vincent Jackson.

Here are the details: Continue reading

Draft Talk: Is it Robert Griffin III or Bust For the Redskins?

I have a buddy that is a Redskins fan, and every year he is telling me about what the Redskins should do but won’t do in the draft. Last year it was trading up for Julio Jones I believe. Either way, the point is he is in a constant state of disappointment and confusion when it comes to the Skins. And why shouldn’t he be? The team seems to make decisions by throwing darts at a board, spinning a wheel, drawing straws, or something else of that nature.

Many, many, Skins fans here on MDHQ have mocked Robert Griffin III to the Skins. If you visit any Redskins forum there is a guaranteed 5-plus page on “RG3.”

But do they absolutely need him to have a chance to succeed in 2012? Continue reading

A Giant Win: What We Learned In Super Bowl XLVI

Eli Manning and the New York Giants did the unexpected again last night, and defeated the New England Patriots for their second Super Bowl title in four years. Eli Manning notched his second big game MVP Award and AGAIN made a play that we will be watching for years to come. The clutch 38 yard throw to Mario Manningham was something truly for the ages. I totally expected the Giants to win so I’m not shocked they won, just shocked how they did it.

Anyways, what did we learn in context of the NFL going forward? I believe Continue reading

5 Reasons Why the New York Giants Will Win Super Bowl XLVI

It is Saturday night and we are only hours away from the final game of this year’s NFL season. Then it is on to my favorite time of the year… DRAFT SEASON. But before we get to that, the big game must be played. If you actually read the title of this post you already know that I am in fact predicting that the New York Giants will win Super Bowl XLVI (this has the potential look real dumb tomorrow night).

So why am I putting my very imaginary money down on the NY Giants? There are 5 reasons. Check them out: Continue reading

2012 NFL Mock Draft: Brandon Weeden to Denver Broncos? Age Not a Concern for One Scout

One of the biggest criticism’s you hear going on in this draft process is that of the age of former Oklahoma State QB Brandon Weeden. Weeden is going to be entering the NFL at 29 years old after a stint in the MLB and his 4 years at Oklahoma State. For that reason many people have compared him to Chris Weinke (though Weeden is a far better passer in my humble opinion). Weinke also came into the league around 28-29 years old.

One scout isn’t buying the age problem. He’s predicting someone will Continue reading

Ut Oh: Nick Foles Is a Denver Broncos Fan

Oh the 102.3 ESPN podcast, Les & Jojo held an interview with former Arizona Wildcats QB Nick Foles. As you know, I think he is one of the more talented passers in this draft, and many other draft pundits agree with that sentiment. Some even have Foles pegged as a first round pick.

It was interesting to hear Nick talk about his experience as one of the Quarterbacks in the Senior Bowl, but was even more interesting was this tiny tidbit he drops at the beginning of the interview.

Denver was one of my favorite teams growing up

He then goes on to say:

…I grew up a John Elway fan, he’s my favorite Quarterback growing up

They also asked Nick to comment on the fact Continue reading
