Taysom Hill is such an interesting player. For one, he can do everything on the field the team needs but his original position is supposed to be quarterback which he isn’t quite good enough to be a starter. The Saints don’t seem to mind as long as Hill is a positive contributor on offense in some way.

To break down the new, Hill is getting $40M from the Saints to stay with the club catching passes and running the ball. If he is ever the QB then his deal balloons to almost $100M. If I were Taysom I’d focus on beating out Jameis Winston because the difference between 45 and 95M is staggering.

Here are the details:

New Orleans’ QB Taysom Hill signed a unique four-year, hybrid-type of a contract extension that could be worth anywhere between $40 million and $95 million, depending on the position he plays, and includes $22.5 million guaranteed, sources tell ESPN.

Taysom Hill’s hybrid deal is unique and unlike other contracts because it pays him a $40 million base salary for the role that he’s currently playing and up to an additional $55 million if he does become the Saints’ starting QB for the next four seasons.

Even if he never becomes the QB, getting $10 million a year to be a gadget player is great money, and the $22.5 million guaranteed is nothing to sneeze at.

I am not sure if this qualifies as trolling when you are paying, but Saints fans apparently don’t care and are setting up a billboard to troll Falcons fans. At $1,000 a week this will come out to $17-20k depending on if they keep the board up during the preseason or playoffs. Seems like the Saints fans are the losers here.

Here are the details:

For $1,000 a week, Saints fans want to make Falcons fans relive the Super Bowl collapse with a billboard displaying the now infamous 28-3 third-quarter score near Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

The New Orleans T-shirt company Dirty Coast has launched the campaign based off their (apparently) popular score designed shirt. From the campaign:

In New Orleans we take history seriously. So it goes without asking that we made note of the historic loss in last year’s Superbowl. So to commemorate that moment we would like to put up a billboard in Atlanta. Is it an epic act of trolling? Maybe. Is it hilarious? You bet.

If you want to help us pay for the billboard ($1,000 per week) then please donate $10. If we can collect enough we can keep the billboard up for months.

The New Orleans Saints just agreed to a deal with the QB that will net him $100 million over the next five years with at least $60 million of that guaranteed. Here are the details:

Brees, per a source with knowledge of the deal, will receive a $37 million signing bonus and a $3 million base salary in 2012. The full signing bonus will be paid out within the next six months.

The $40 million paid in 2012 is fully guaranteed. For now, $20 million beyond 2012 is guaranteed for injury only. Next year, on the third day of the waiver period (typically, the third day after the Super Bowl), $15 million of the injury guarantee becomes fully guaranteed. The extra $5 million remains guaranteed for injury only.

In 2015, again on the third day of the waiver period, more than half of his $19 million base salary becomes fully guaranteed. Ditto for 2016; on the third day of the waiver period, more than half of the $20 million base salary becomes fully guaranteed.

The device in the last two years of the contract forces the Saints to cut him, if at all, sufficiently early in the offseason to give him a full chance to land elsewhere.

In all, he’ll receive $40 million this year, $10 million in 2013, $11 million in 2014, $19 million in 2015, and $20 million in 2016.

Pertaining to the draft, the Saints are going to be weaker in the upcoming NFL Drafts. In 2012, New Orleans’ second round pick will be forfeited. In 2013, more picks may be forfeited as well:

As we understand it, the Saints will still have a significant draft-pick penalty in 2013, to go along with the loss of a second-round pick in 2012.

Profootballtalk

For a team that just lost CB Tracy Porter and WR Robert Meachem, that second round pick could have been used to replace one of those players. Next year the Saints will probably have more holes. Its a big penalty but on the bright side you always have Drew Brees.

The Randy Moss Unretirement Tour officially has begun, with the 35-year-old receiver blowing away the Saints.

Not only do they have Drew Brees and Chase Daniels, but rumors coming out of the draft community are reporting that the Saints are interested in the former Boise State Broncos QB Kellen Moore.

Here are the details:

Source says he expects #Saints to add Kellen Moore, likes his chances to succeed under Sean Payton

Credit: Cecil Lammey

I think this would be a great move considering Moore has a very similar skillset to the QBs they already have. Though Brees probably has the strongest arm between he, Daniels, and Moore all three QBs rely on accuracy and timing to make up for their lack of height at the position. Kellen Moore is going to be a serviceable QB wherever he goes due to his natural feel for timing routes, and it may be the best thing for him to study under Drew Brees for a couple years before taking over either in New Orleans or elsewhere.
