NIKE announced today that the new face of their brand is non other than former NFL QB Colin Kaepernick.

It seems like every time we hear Kap’s name it is due to some sort of “controversy.” Words are that the NFL may or may have not blacklisted him for doing a season long protest of police brutality during the National Anthem.

Two years later the biggest American sportswear brand makes him the face of their brand. There is something to be said for being on the right side of history.

Kap risked it all and while this is a “W” in the short term, there is still a long road ahead of him. Now that he is with NIKE, the resources are there to really make changes in how we all engage with the athletes and sports we all love.

Just do it?

I think they just did it.

The Lebron 15 looks terrible. Just look at it. I don’t know what they were going for but no, just no.

It looks like a military boot with snakeskin. Something a Vietnam vet might rock, but not me.

My only question to NIKE and Lebron?

WHAT ARE THOOOOOOOOSE?

So how would Ye’ follow up his success in the fashion world? Of course by doing what a rapper does: putting out a diss track.

It’s not another rapper that Yeezy dissed on his latest track, #FACTS, instead its corporations such as Nike that didn’t give him the help he needed making clothes. Kanye throws a bunch of jabs their way including name dropping Lebron James, Drake, James Harden, and Swaggy P during his assault on the Swoosh brand.

One of the most successful business ventures James has been involved in is his NIKE deal which he signed before playing in the NBA. The deal expired and was extended nine years, but as of this week Lebron has said forget that and went ahead to form a lifetime partnership with the brand:

Giving LeBron $1 billion over, say, 30 years, is a drop in the bucket for Nike, which will pull in north of a TRILLION over that time.

The deal allegedly pays Lebron $30 MILLION PLUS A YEAR for the REST OF HIS LIFE! Just think about that. That is generational money this guy is getting for wearing shoes and headbands.

A low-end estimate of this deal combined with his basketball contacts and other deals will net Lebron’s career earnings easily into the billionaire status. Like the great Kevin Garnett once said, “ANYTHING IS POSSIBLEEEEEEE!”

BREAKING: Nike and NBA to announce new 8-year deal to become official uniform of NBA. Will start in 2017-18. Adidas is out.

Unlike Reebok & adidas, Nike logo will appear on NBA uniforms when new uniform deal starts in 2017-18.

Judging by reaction of relief by NBA fans about Nike replacing adidas, adidas has a long, long way to go to establish credibility in the US

8-year deal between Nike & NBA that makes Nike official uniform supplier is worth approximately $1 billion.

Nike will pay NBA about $125M a year for official uniform supplier deal, which is a 245% increase from what adidas paid for previous deal.

Hopefully this marks the end of those horrid Christmas jerseys and sleeved jerseys. It will be every interesting to see what NIKE cooks up for the NBA.

Another nail in the Adidas coffin….

Here are my thoughts:

Oregon: I like the white on white clean look. I was worried for a minute that NIKE would go crazy with the yellow and neon green, but the white and steel combo works. I like these MUCH better than the “highlighter socks” uniforms they wore during the LaMichael James era.

Ohio State: Nothing much to see here. NIKE kept it real simple, which I like. OSU has a classic look that shouldn’t be altered with in my opinion. The only thing NIKE really did was raise the location of the shoulder stripes a tad and add black to the TV/shoulder numbers. Other than that, these look just like the normal uniforms.

Both teams have a new sleek look for the title game. Who will prevail? We shall see!

The Seahawks jersey is pretty controversial. I really don’t know what to make of it. I guess it looks ok. I’d imagine Nike is going to have 1000 variations of the helmet/pants/jersey combo for them soon.
