Wizards fans, please don’t shoot the messenger. I’m just trying to give you the large picture!
Jeff Van Gundy was recently asked about the Wizards and what he would do to get the NBA’s worst team in competition again. He took the time to fire some not so nice comments at our boy (shout out to Raleigh) John Wall.
Van Gundy’s comments and my thoughts below:
“You know, I don’t see it, to be honest,” Van Gundy said. “I’d love to tell you you’re two years away; I really don’t [see it]. That roster doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I know they’ll be better when John Wall comes back. He’s certainly got talent, but I don’t know that even John Wall is a great player to build your franchise around. I don’t know WHO you’re building around, so it’s tough to even think about what the construction of your team is. That’s just a bad basketball team.”

Thoughts: It is true that the Wizards’ roster makes zero sense, but you CANNOT blame John Wall. Last time I checked, he wasn’t a GM! Wall’s also been injured most of this season so how can you blame him for the product Emeka Okafor, Maybyner Hilario, and Bradley Beal are putting on the floor every night?
The thing is, this team hasn’t developed AND RETAINED any talent in the last five years. Out of the last five drafts (2007-11, not counting Brad Beal) the Wizards drafted and retained one starter: JOHN WALL!
So how can you say you cannot build around him… if nothing is being built around him?
