Mike Mayock is back at it again. On a conference call Mayock took a bunch of questions about which quarterbacks he like the most. One of the more interesting things that popped up is the league-wide search for the next Kirk Cousins.

That means that there are several teams that do not necessarily need starters today but are looking around in the fourth to fifth round area to find someone who can develop in the system and seamlessly transition when the time comes. It worked for Mike Shanahan even though he was fired from the Redskins before RG3 became an injury prone outcast teammate and Kirk Cousins came in winning games and creating new catchphrases.

Mayock said that Kevin Hogan is the most pro ready due to the scheme Stanford ran and what he was asked to do. Stanford’s system helped Andrew Luck step right into the NFL and be ready from day one so it only makes sense.

Check out his comments on Kevin Hogan below:

Now, beyond that, Hogan is probably the most ready intellectually of any of those quarterbacks. I mean, at Stanford, from a pass protection, in a run scheme, change at the line of scrimmage, what they ask him to do, it’s probably as close to what you’re going to see in the NFL as any of them. So he’s going to come in and pick it up very quickly, and he’s the type of kid that made a lot of headway from his sophomore year to his senior year. He struggled early, but his career got better and better, and he’s one of those guys. I like him.

NFL draft expert Mike Mayock has spoken. And boy did he speak because his words are resonating quickly across the draft community. Mayock has exclaimed publicly that NDSU QB Carson Wentz has “Andrew Luck” type of potential. Wow, just, wow.

Check out Mayock’s Carson Wentz-Andrew Luck comparison below:

NFL Media draft expert Mike Mayock says North Dakota State QB Carson Wentz shares Andrew Luck’s ceiling.

“When I look at him, I see a kid that’s as athletic or more athletic than Andrew Luck,” Mayock said. “He’s bigger than Andrew Luck. He’s got arm strength comparable to Andrew Luck,” Mayock said on Tuesday. “He just doesn’t have the experience that Andrew Luck had at a high level coming out of college. So I see a ceiling for this kid similar to Andrew Luck. That’s why I believe in this kid so much, but it’s going to take a little bit of time.” Luck, who went No. 1 to the Colts in 2012 and arrived with more polish, passed for 4,374 yards as a rookie. Mayock added that Wentz has drawn praise from scouts for his intangibles. “His character apparently is off the charts, that’s what I was told by everybody surrounding the Senior Bowl that had anything to do with him. Smart, tough, loves the game,” Mayock said. Wentz is expected to post “Luck/Newton type Combine numbers” later this week in Indy, according to former NFL scout Matt Williamson.

Andrew Luck is one of the better athletes at the quarterback position in the entire league. He’s also very poised and makes very quick decisions when he has a half decent offensive line. Just look at his 2014 campaign that ended in deflated footballs and one game away from the Super Bowl. People don’t even remember the whooping they put on Peyton’s Broncos either.

In my opinion Wentz is much closer to Alex Smith than Andrew Luck. And when you really think about it Alex Smith is not a bad comparison at all.

PAUSE! I am one of the most understanding people I know, but even I cannot come up for a reasonable explination for this. Apparently, NFL Network analyst Mike Mayock got a little excited* as the offensive linemen ran their drills and uttered a phrase I don’t even want to repeat:

Look at the bubble butt, look at the thighs

This is a statement that I would make if Draya were running the 40 not Andrus Peat. There is a way to compliment a man on his physique and then there is a way not to do it. A draft analyst might say a prospect is stout or is built and that is perfectly fine. When you start saying things like look at that bubble we have to hit you with the pause.

If you care here is the video proof of the incident below:

GM’S WHO YALL PLAYIN WIT’ DRAFT DAT PROSPECT!

*I’m not inferring anything regarding Mike Mayock’s preferences. I do not know nor care.
