There is only one small snag in the KD 2 DC plan. The Wizards never considered Durant!!

Yes, it’s true. The Wizards don’t plan to meet with Kevin Durant:

Wow, just, wow. Why dangle this carrot to your fans and clear the cap without at least securing a meeting? You aren’t even trying to talk with Durant?!! If the Wizards still have fans after this debacle I’ll be surprised.

John Wall also provided some insight on why people feel like KD is a possibility not worth hoping for:

“A lot of people will be devastated. But at the end of the day he never promised us anything,” Wall said to CSNmidatlantic.com on Sunday during the final day of his camp at Fairfax High School, before departing for his offseason home in Los Angeles. “Every day, everybody said KD-to-DC, coming to our games wearing all the Kevin Durant stuff, he didn’t like it at that time because you should cheer for the team that you got. That might sway him.”

It’s very interesting that Roc Nation Sports won’t even let KD speak with the Wizards. This could mutate into the Lebron in Miami situation between KD’s new team and the Wizards.

This is likely to create scoring after KD is gone. Looks like the Thunder are moving forward with life after Kevin Durant. Even if KD stays for an additional year this gives the Thunder a more flexible cap going forward.

Secondly, the Wizards are giving Joakim Noah the true max:

No, just, no. I feel sorry for Wizards fans. You tank the depth on this team to create the cap for… Joakim Noah?!! Joakim Noah?!!! You could have gotten him without tanking. Wow.

And finally, KD’s camp is leaking that he is leaning towards a “basketball decision:

Sources told ESPN that the list of teams that get to pitch Durant directly will grow before NBA free agency officially commences July 1 at 12:01 a.m. ET, but the list of confirmed suitors for now features the Thunder and their two main rivals in the Western Conference.

The Warriors and Spurs, sources say, are both already planning to load a plane full of key organizational figures.

This means that he is going to try to win a title and that won’t happen in DC for some time. Remember, all the Warriors have to do is let Harrison Barnes walk and they have the cap for KD. Looks like #KD2DC is over.

More money = more flexibility to sign KD?!!

Wizards fans are keeping hope alive and now they are putting their money where their mouth is. That’s right, as of the time of this post fans are now ordering their own Kevin Durant Wizard jerseys.

Here is a tweet from @thinkprogress editor Aaron Rupar showing that he indeed has a Durant Wizards jersey in hand:

You cannot order a KD Wiz jersey quite yet, but you can get them customized. The NBA store won’t allow you to put DURANT on the back but if you put DUR ANT it works.

Possibly in a few months fans won’t have to customize a jersey at all….

First it was arranging the roster to make sure a legit max was available for KD.

Then it was hiring KD’s old coach Scott Brooks.

Then it was the NIKE store in downtown DC mysteriously putting a floor-to-ceiling display of KD in the window.

Then it was a local rapper starting a GoFundMe to lure KD home.

And now… DURANT HAS LANDED IN DC:

No, the upcoming NBA free agent wasn’t back in his hometown to hear a pitch from the Washington Wizards, we don’t think anyway. Nah, unkosher at this point on the NBA calendar. Was he there for a game of hoops with President Barack Obama? Maybe, but if so that was secondary to the main reason for the Oklahoma City Thunder star’s visit.

Durant and Washington Redskins receiver Pierrre Garcon were among those supporting the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Success Mentors Initiative, the White House announced. The initiative is designed to help chronic student absences in our country by “connecting over one million students who are or at risk of becoming chronically absent with trained school-linked caring adults and near-peers over the next 3-5 years.”

KD’S in the town. That’s just one step closer… DC fans don’t get your hopes up quite yet but it’s looking good.

That’s right. The Kevin Durant to Washington Wizards story is a thing again. It is always fun when a player has the option of playing in front of his home fanbase.

For all intents and purposes, KD has shown zero interest in playing for the Wizards but never say never. Until the ink is dry on a new contract we can all hope.
