Nights like that make me love and hate college football at the SAME DAMN TIME.

On one hand, you have to love the excitement. Or in the words of Bart Scott, “ANYBODY CAN GET BEAT!!” But on the other hand I hate the fact that the entire season is virtually a single-elimination, winner takes all tournament.

When the “playoffs” start in college football (and I quote that because only six conferences will have a chance to enter it) maybe things will change. For now it is the system we have and we’ll deal with it as fans. But for the players it really has to suck.

How can you tell a guy like Colin Klein “Hey, you were one of the best players in the nation but sorry your team lost one game at Baylor we are eliminating you from winning the Heisman!” It just doesn’t make sense. But that’s the spillover from the winner takes all mindset.

Raise you hand if you thought that the week before Thanksgiving K-State would be a legitimate National Title contender.

Maybe one of you would be telling the truth, the rest are lying if your hands are raised.

That is the reason Klein should win the Heisman. He made the biggest impact on the biggest level. You can argue for Manti Teo and Braxton Miller as well, but what happens if ND loses versus USC and Ohio State stumbles versus Michigan? Then we are at square one all over again.

The fact of the matter is we have to stop looking for undefeated Heisman contenders and start handing the trophy to the most exemplary player in the Nation. And by all means that is Colin Klein in 2013. He should be your Heisman winner… but will he?

Now he is taking his talents to the NFL beach.

Kansas State running back Bryce Brown is done with college football and plans to enter the 2012 NFL draft, according to Knoxville radio host Jimmy Hyams on Twitter.

This is probably not a good idea. Bryce Brown has all the talent in the world but we have not seen him put it together and show any kind of consistency doing so. If you are a GM would you feel comfortable giving this guy hundreds of thousands of dollars when you know up front that he has a habit of disappearing?

We’ll see how Brown runs and all that at the combine, but don’t plan on hearing his name called this spring. The character issues are going to be too much for a team to look past in my opinion. This feels like the Maurice Clarett situation all over again…

It hasn’t been a good year for the third string. First the Broncos throw Tim Tebow on the third string now this. Former Tennessee Volunteer and former #1 overall high school recruit Bryce Brown has been regulated to third string on his new squad, Kansas State. If you remember Lane Kiffin recruited him down in Tennessee before he jetted off to USC.

Here are the details (CFT):

K-State coach Bill Snyder announced that Brown, just as he was for the Wildcats’ season-opener against Eastern Kentucky, would be the third-string running back going forward.“I think for him, getting invested is probably the most significant thing for him,” Snyder said. “And I think he’s making some headway in that respect. I think he’s a little more into it. He missed a lot during the course of the summer, so there’s a lot of catching up for him to do.”

Brown carried the ball just three times for 16 yards against EKU, his last carry being a fumble. Ahead of Brown are sophomore John Hubert and JUCO transfer Angelo Pease.

Bill Snyder has always been a master motivator and has gotten a lot out of players that others have overlooked. Darren Sproles’ near Heisman season comes to mind. Here’s hoping Bryce cracks the rotation sooner rather than later.
