The Rams are sitting at 4-5 which is good enough for third place in the NFC East, but it may not be good enough for Jeff Fisher to keep his job. At the very least we know it isn’t good enough for Case Keenum to keep his.

That’s right, the Rams have had enough and have decided to play rookie #1 overall pick Jared Goff for the remainder of the season. They still have an outside shot at playoffs if they win out so maybe Goff can produce the eleven wins needed for that.

Jared Goff will make his first NFL start Sunday at home vs Miami Dolphins, per @mortreport. Goff tries to give Rams postseason push.

If nothing else, maybe Jeff Fisher can improve on that 31-41 W-L record as head coach of the Rams. Yes that’s five seasons, 31 wins, 41 losses, and NO PLAYOFFS.

In Goff LA trusts.

Jared Goff started the season hot as his California Bears got off to a 5-0 start. As this happened, the other top quarterback prospects all cooled off and allowed Goff to headline the field.

Christian Hackenberg became known as Sackenberg due to his obliviousness to pocket pressure and lack of talent around him. Cardale Jones has been benched multiple times, and Cody Kessler can’t stop throwing interceptions.

So why is Jared Goff no longer the clear top quarterback prospect? Easy, because of this stretch of Cal’s inconsistent play.

Against a UCLA team with a freshman quarterback missing two starting linebackers, a starting receiver, and halfback, Goff and Cal looked the part of the quarterback missing his weapons.

Goff threw accurate passes when he had time to make the throws but that came few and far between. At the end of the first half Goff put together a masterful two minute drive but other than that it was limited to making one read to a receiver who wasn’t open before the pocket collapsed. Teams still love him but another player is gaining steam fast.

Enter Paxton Lynch.

Paxton Lynch had a coming out party in Memphis’ historic win over Ole Miss and he hasn’t stopped since. Against Ole Miss, Lynch threw for 39 of 53 for 384 big yards and three touchdowns.

It also doesn’t hurt that he’s 6’6 and has the bulk teams don’t see when they look at Goff.

“Paxton Lynch is moving up. I need to study him more, but guys with his size that can move like he does — he has a chance to be big time.” — NFC area scout on Memphis’ junior QB

NFL.com

We’ll keep a closer eye on the whole Lynch vs. Goff thing but it seems like the QB race is down to two. There is always Connor Cook, Trevone Boykin, and Gunner Kiel in the fray but for now it seems like these two are above the rest.

Should the Lions Draft Jared Goff with the #1 Overall Pick?

Matt Stafford is out in Detroit. The Lions benched him last week after going 20-of-32 with 188 yards and a touchdown. Oh yeah, and three picks. And the Lions lost their fifth straight game.

For those counting Detroit is still the only team in the NFL with zero wins.

With Stafford owed exactly $0 guaranteed next season it is all but a formality at this point. The Lions are going to get out of the Stafford era soon.

With Stafford out should the Lions draft Jared Goff?

A new regime is going to want its own quarterback. The problem is… this upcoming draft class doesn’t really have a standout.

Jared Goff is among the most talented. He is basically the anti-Stafford with his ball placement and accuracy. He is certainly in the mix for the number one pick.

Connor Cook is who the fans will want. Cook plays at Michigan State and the fans have seen him win the most games in school history. Lions/Spartan fans will want to continue that winning tradition. Cook doesn’t have the same arm talent as Goff but the drop off isn’t that wide either. It will be interesting to see which direction the Lions go in.

Ultimately the Lions should draft Jared Goff with the #1 overall pick if they earn it but you have to remember: this is the Lions. I wouldn’t be surprised if they took Robert Nkemdiche or Cardale Jones. When it comes to this franchise nothing would surprise me at this point!

Who will be the number one overall pick in 2016? As the college season gets more and more interesting, a gumbo stew of names are emerging as candidates with no clear front runner.

2016 will be loaded with skill position players but this draft is certainly lacking one thing- a big name at quarterback leading the class. One could argue there is a name or two that could end up becoming this guy but for now let’s just break it down.

Connor Cook
Cook is having a great year but his skill set is being exposed. He has the most wins in school history and can make NFL throws, but there isn’t a wow factor to his game and the draft community is starting to notice.

I think the best Connor Cook comparison I can come up with is Kyle Orton.. Cook is more mobile, but arm talent is very similar.

— Ryan McCrystal (@Ryan_McCrystal) September 30, 2015

Robert Nkemdiche
In my humble opinion, Nkemdiche is the #1 overall prospect in the class. Does he have the positional value to go #1? Is he such a heads and shoulder #1 pick that you forgo need or positional value?

Nkemdiche has Suh-like qualities to his game, but he isn’t going to be a day 1 franchise changing pick. He’s going to disrupt plays and free up whoever else is on the line with him in the pros. The best hope for the team that drafts Nkemdiche would be Aaron Donald and it makes you ask the positional value question again.

Excellent work by Goolsby, OTs in pass pro but Nkemdiche bulldozes Thurman. Grier slings TD as he's hit. https://t.co/8v37rubTdU

— Thomas Goldkamp (@ThomasGoldkamp) October 4, 2015

Jared Goff
Goff is emerging as the top player in this quarterback class and due to positional value he’s in the mix for the #1 pick.

Much like fellow Cal quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Goff doesn’t have measurables that are going to jump off the page at you. The part of his game GMs are falling in love with are his poise and decision making, especially under duress.
