Jets QB Geno Smith has some free time on his hands these days. He is currently out for six weeks after getting his jaw broken by a now former teammate. Apparently the scuffle was over a $600 plane ticket that Geno refused to reimburse.

Geno was chilling at home, allegedly, when he was caught throwing some passes shirtless complete with eye black. No word if he was running actual plays or just playing some throw-and-catch.

Either way the Jets are pretty upset about this:

“He shouldn’t be doing it right now,” Jets coach Todd Bowles said, via Dom Cosentino of NJ.com. “We handled that internally. We had that discussion.”

“He just got surgery; you don’t want him getting infected,” Bowles said. “[The doctors] said he couldn’t do anything physical, so I’m going by the rules of what they said. . . .

“As an organization, we handled that. It’s not disappointing; it’s something you don’t want to do. We addressed it.”

Hopefully Geno gets well soon and gets cleared to throw soon. Until he gets back Ryan Fitzpatrick and rookie Bryce Petty will be steering the ship for the Gang Green.

Is this a case of ultimate trolling or a good personnel move? We’ll have to see, but the Bills have announced they are claiming IK Enemkpali off waivers just 24 hours after he was waived for giving Geno Smith a two piece that ended with a broken jaw.

Still no words on if the two piece included a biscuit or home fries.

All kidding aside, the Bills need some linebacker talent after trading Kiko Alonzo for Lesean McCoy this off-season so who knows, it just might work out.

Rex Ryan had IK and Geno last year in New York so he more so than any coach knows the dynamic and temperament of the two players involved in the fight. Here is what he had to say about it, via PFT:

“We all know what happened,” Ryan said, via Mike Rodak of ESPN.com. “Obviously it was a terrible thing that happened. But IK made a mistake. Instead of listening to this person, that person. . . . We had IK last year. . . . He was a good teammate. Simple as that. It we didn’t think he would be successful on field, in locker room, and in community, he wouldn’t be here.”

If knocking out the starting QB for six weeks gets you a new job in the NFL, then I guess we should look forward to Josh Norman going to Atlanta or Tampa after trying to spear Cam Newton like Roman Reigns:

Mark Sanchez is among the most scruitinized players in the NFL. With good reason. He is the league leader in turnovers by a single player over the past few seasons. The Jets have attempted to replace him but the likes of Greg McElroy, Tim Tebow, Mark Brunell, and David Garrard haven’t been able to supplant him. That is why the Jets stayed patient and drafted West Virginia’s Geno Smith with their second round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Sanchez seems unaffected, and believes he will still be the starter in 2013-2014. Do you agree?

“I’m planning on playing, I’m planning on starting.”

“Part of that comes when you’re just confident in yourself. If I was insecure about something or . . . can’t handle this competition, maybe I wouldn’t say much to him. Maybe I’d be a little scared to give him help,” said Sanchez. “But I don’t feel like that. I just don’t. That’s not my personality. I’m confident, I’m ready to go, I can do it, I know I can.”

It is no secret that Blaine Gabbert hasn’t exactly set the world on fire so far in his short career. Many people feel that Gabbert is a bust selection and you know what? The pro analysts agree.

Shaun King, former Buccaneers quarterback and NFL analyst predicts that the Jaguars are indeed drafting Geno Smith with the #2 overall pick:

Shaun King of NBCSN’s Pro Football Talk is accurate in his strong belief that the Jaguars will take Smith with the second selection in the draft.

The interesting thing here is that the Arizona Cardinals, Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills have all made moves to secure veteran quarterbacks in the past week. Were those moves made with inside information that they aren’t getting a chance at Smith or just good business? The Eagles have remained mum but have Michael Vick on a one year deal, so we’ll see.

Geno the Jag? I can dig that.

If Geno isn’t called in the first 10 picks as projected, it won’t be nearly as awkward as when Brady Quinn was left all alone. The NFL now invites a ton of players to New York so there will be some guys in the back to keep him company.

That’s why it isn’t surprising that after Geno announced that he would participate fully in the combine all of the other quarterbacks quickly announced the same.

Some people believe there is no starting quarterback in this draft so it will be interesting to see who has the best workout particularly in accuracy and footwork drills. Smith and Nassib should shine… but will they?

You can watch the combine live in two weeks on NFL Network to find out!

It’s one game people.

That’s what I would tell everyone snatching Geno Smith down their NFL Draft boards. It’s just one game.

In a muddy, snowy, mess of a game versus Syracuse Geno and his Mountaineers struggled to put on one of their signature offensive displays. Geno’s stat line was still respectable going 16-24 for 187 yards, two touchdowns and zero interceptions.

However many “analysts” are saying that since Syracuse has Geno’s number, and he struggled in a muddy meaningless bowl game he shouldn’t even be a first round pick.

Especially ESPN Analyst Todd McShay.

In a recorded segment McShay said that Geno “may be a first rounder” and that there are only two quarterbacks that would go in the first round. Of course right on cue ESPN rolled clips of Mike Glennon. Glennon’s first round hype is being mainly driven by McShay himself, but we’ve seen this before.

All I have to do is show you the 2011 NFL Draft where McShay suddenly decided to start ranking Blaine Gabbert as high as the #3 overall pick seemingly out of the blue.

McShay even famously said that Gabbert was the best QB in 2011, once again seemingly out of the blue.

This is what I mean when I tell you the draft is not always about the better player. There are a lot of things going on behind the scenes which elevate guys. McShay is clearly driving the “Geno Smith isn’t a first rounder, but Mike Glennon is” narrative for whatever rea$on. Don’t let them fool you.

The 2013 NFL Draft class may not have a hands down superstar at quarterback but there is talent there. Years like this are when we seem to get the Drew Brees’ type guys. Who remembers how weak that draft class was at QB?

Scouts jobs are to find those diamonds in the rough. Whether it is actually Glennon or Geno, or someone else.

Kiper cited a lack of a top tier passer, and said that NC State’s Mike Glennon is right up there with the top two passers as well. Being that all three are Seniors we will see how they perform at the Senior Bowl Down in Mobile.

Do you think that Kiper is correct? Will NFL teams like Kansas City, Philly, Jacksonville, etc. ignore their needs at QB and let these guys slip to the second round. Is the market for Alex Smith and Mike Vick really going to be that hot?

I think that once the final standings shake out we’ll see some obvious trades. Someone will come to the top 10 in pursuit of Luke Joeckel or Manti Teo and allow one of the quarterback needy teams to drop down in round one and still get their guy. Who knows, that could be Glennon. Or it could be Tyler Bray, Tyler Wilson etc.

What do you think will happen? Is Kiper on to something?

Never forget he compared Jamarcus Russell to John Elway:

..all because he failed to lead a West Virginia team that cannot stop anyone on defense to another high-scoring win. The thing is when you play the air raid style of ball you are most likely to lose to another air raid team. How ironic right?

When your drives last less than three real time minutes and your defense isn’t getting any stops you are going to eventually get outgunned. It is just a fact of playing that style of ball.

Now, Geno did struggle but it is one game people. One game! He still put together a decent stat line of 275 yards and no interceptions. Texas Tech put up 49 points on a leaky WVU defense and made it look easy. Geno and crew basically had this whooping coming down the pipe eventually due to running the air raid with such a leaky defense and it just happened to happen on Saturday. No reason to panic about Geno’s NFL Draft stock.

Taking nothing away from Klein, because he is doing well, but how can you totally ignore what Smith is doing right now? At the beginning of the season Smith was looked at as another gimmick coming out of the air raid offense and was not considered a top 2013 NFL Draft pick.

Well, every week goes by and all Smith does is complete passes at an extremely high rate, and doesn’t throw interceptions.

Smith wasn’t even the star. He didn’t do much to hurt his Heisman stock, going 25-of-35 for 268 yards, four touchdowns, and again, no interceptions

Smith is on Matt Barkley’s heels right now. I don’t care what anyone says.
