As if the NFL cannot get any more popular, the latest move to try to increase the league’s popularity is being voted on as we speak. The NFL and it’s team owners are reportedly in favor of moving the NFL Draft back from April to May, May 15th 2014 to be exact.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, next year’s draft would start on May 15, three weeks after this year’s draft. The timetable for the Scouting Combine and the league year would not change in 2014.

In 2015, the draft would happen a little bit earlier in May, the league year would begin in early March, and the Scouting Combine would slide to the middle of March.

Read More: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/05/20/2014-draft-would-start-may-15/

The prevailing thought is that teams want to have a few more weeks to fill in their needs via free agency but that is just an excuse. The real reasoning here is: the paper. It’s always about money. Now I LOVE the NFL Draft and will never stop supporting it (that’s why I founded MDHQ) but why lie to us?

Moving the draft just three weeks conveniently moves the television program from the last week of quarter one advertising budgets, to the first week of quarter two ad budgets. That’s what it’s really about. The NFL and it’s television partners can simply make more on May 5th than they can on April 18th or whatever the original date was.

Many, many, many questions with little or no answers. In a way it seems like he was destined to be an enigma from day one. A few weeks ago the near 30 quarterback even attended a University of Texas Pro Day…. as a competitor. The reviews were solid but no one gave him a shot.

VY may be on to the next phase in his life but at least he went out swinging and accomplished his college degree which is a positive note to go out on (if it’s over):

“This will rank No. 1 because it is what I came to school for,” Young told Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com on Thursday night. “I came here to get an education, and to win a national championship. And now, I get to put that smile on my mom’s face.”

The people spoke, and they listened. In approximately 18 months the Charlotte Bobcats will rebrand to the Charlotte Hornets according to multiple reports.

The Charlotte Bobcats have started the process to rename the team back to “Hornets,” according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

There is no timetable for the switch and Adam Silver has said such a change would take at least 18 months to implement.

Source:http://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/227738/Bobcats-In-Process-To-Change-Name-Back-To-Hornets

Without inside knowledge of the situation I can say that from the outside looking in team owner Michael Jordan was in favor of a name change if it’s what the community wanted. There have been several grassroots organizations such as Bring Back the Buzz to pop up supporting the name change. The Charlotte area has a lot of history with the name so it isn’t out of the question they wanted it back.

As we head into the 2014 season, one of the most controversial prospects will be Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Many believe Bridgewater will be the first passer off the board in the 2014 draft, and we’ll see, but for now let’s breakdown some of the things we love about his game along with a few areas that need work.

Positives:
At 6’3-6’4 and 218 lbs, Teddy certainly checks the “size” box off pretty quickly. He is around the prototypical size of a pro passer. There won’t be any issues brought up about his physical size like there will be about Johnny “Football” Manziel.

The first thing that leaps off the page at you is Teddy’s athleticism. He is a smooth, smooth athlete with the football. He will bring up a lot of Vince Young comparisons in that regard though it looks that in-game, Teddy is a shade faster. This is a guy that can easily gash a team for 15-20 yards at a time if he’s given a lane.

But what about his passing? Well, he throws for a respectable 68.5% completion percentage and comes from an offense that actually goes down field. These aren’t inflated throws at the line of scrimmage (*cough, cough, you know who*). Teddy has a nice spin on the ball and stands tall in the pocket. He isn’t afraid of contact and keeps his eyes down-field even when he knows he’s going to get hit.

What needs to be worked on:
When he misses throws, he tends to miss long and throw them where his man cannot get a chance to make a play. This is a negative and a positive, actually.

The biggest area of concern I have personally is that he doesn’t do a lot of checking off. Meaning that when he decides to go somewhere with the ball, that is where it is going immediately. He’s a big fan of the quick underneath throw to his backs within 10 yards. This is great for completion percentage, but in the NFL teams will cover the flats against him and dare him to go down-field.

Where Will Teddy Bridgewater Get Drafted?
I don’t foresee a huge drop off such as what happened to Geno Smith and Matt Barkley. Teddy will be picked in the top 10 baring unforeseen circumstances. There is another quarterback I’d personally select over him, today, but I believe he should be no worse than the 2nd quarterback off the board.

Pro Comparison:
I’d compare Teddy most to the current Dolphins quarterback, Ryan Tannehill. Teddy is a guy with all of the tools and the size a team wants, but it may be a rough transition against pro style defenses who will take away his strengths (taking the flats, scrambling ability).

With the 2013 NFL Draft finally at its conclusion it is time to start looking at the class of ’14. We’ll start with the quarterbacks since that’s the most important position on the field.

Everyone knows that Teddy Bridgewater is one of the top players at the position, and we’ll evaluate him later, but for the first spotlight of 2014 let’s take a look at David Fales (pronounced fails).

Fales is currently the second rated QB on the board behind Bridgewater. Texas A&M sophomore Johnny Manziel is in the mix as well but we have him ranked slightly behind Fales.

Why? Easy: Fales has the arm.

The first thing that jumps off the screen at you is Fales’ incredible accuracy. Though he throws with kind of a weird spiral (he reminds me of Brady Quinn in that aspect) the ball gets there right on time between the numbers. Fales’ anticipation on deep-intermediate throws is already good enough to play on Sundays in my opinion. He doesn’t have the strongest arm but is adequate in that aspect.

If there is a limitation to his game it is his mobility. Not that he’s a stoic guy, David can actually move. However when he moves in the pocket nothing seems to happen unless its a designed move. Many times Fales gets in trouble trying to extend a play and loses yards when he should just get rid of the ball. I call it being “trapped by your own athleticism.” He’s got good mobility but he’s nothing like a Cam Newton or Teddy Bridgewater. If the lane isn’t WIDE OPEN, Fales shouldnt be running.

With that all said, I have Fales graded out as a TOP 3 prospect and the #2 QB. He’s a legitimate franchise player prospect. I compare David Fales as a better Jake Plummer with an Aaron Rodgers ceiling.

The week opened a little bit weird for the “Honey Badger.” He tweeted out a club flyer for a first round draft pick party. Obviously tons of NFL Players use their images for club appearances, but you have to question if this is a little bit too soon?

During the draft we saw Tyrann looking uneasy during the first and second rounds. Maybe he shouldn’t have pressed those party flyers up so quickly. But then, the moment happened:

He looks the part of a man who’s rehabilitated but we all know rehabilitation is a ongoing process. Even if Tyrann has to submit to multiple drug tests, there is still no telling when he’s going to get weak and fall of the wagon, if ever.

Is this the type of player you spend a third round draft pick on?

Talent aside? No. Especially not if the 10 plus failed drug tests are true (source: Yahoo.) He’s a nice corner and will be a special team contributor from day one but as I’ve said: what will happen when he gets that urge? Who’s going to be there? What’s his fall back? Who’s his support system?

The Cardinals have drafted Kevin Minter as well from LSU and already have Patrick Peterson on the roster. From the outside looking in, this is going to create a “family” vibe for Tyrann but I have to beg the question hasn’t he already let this family down once before?

Tyrann can be a great player but it’s tough to predict what is going to happen when he falls into that dark place. Can he find his way to the other side?

Only Tyrann knows deep down inside what he’s going to do when his old habits call him. There are no amount of former LSU buddies that will stop his decision. Trust me, the decision is already made.

The Arizona Cardinals are hoping that he will truly turn the corner.

We open the 2013 NFL Draft again with 50 cent and the low rider. Im trying to figure out the significance of the car? Maybe it’s just there to make him look jiggy and fly, something YA BOY knows nothing about.

Anyways, on to the picks. I logged on to twitter for a minute to see Schefter back to spoiling picks. Thought he was going to leave that alone? Oh well, Schefter says DB. Let’s see…. Cyprien from FIU! Yup, Schefter is going to spoil the draft if you’re looking at your timeline. ESPN should bar them from Tweeting PERIOD during draft weekend.

San Fran trades way up. Wonder what they are thinking. Has to be for Hunt.

The Titans trade with San Fran and go get Justin Hunter. Hunter and Wright may be a nice duo. Still worried about Hunter’s drops though. Apparently this administration’s jobs are on the line if Jake Locker doesn’t produce… to steal a phrase from Jemele Hill… #WELP

Eagles on the clock, let’s see what Chip does. Ertz! Eagles needed a new TE. Vick, target this guy a lot and you’ll be fine.

Bengals signed Andre Smith today. He was at home like “…I’m going to see how this draft goes first before I sign.” Don’t blame him. Bengals take Giovani Bernard. Now that Smith is back, maybe they get a running game going.

Chargers trade up for Te’o! LOOOOOL!!!!! This kid is not Junior Seau, stop it. This is the same franchise that took Larry English with a high first round pick.

Jets are on the clock. Geno is actually here now? I thought he got #emotional and went home. Let’s go. GENOOOO! I used to mock Geno Smith to the Jets in round 1, so getting him at 39 while retaining that first, and replacing Revis immediately is awesome. Just need to find some WRs.

Oh crap, the 49ers took Tank Carradine. I wish the Broncos would have taken him. Oh well, we still got Sly Williams.

Bills take Robert Woods. Random: his dad looks EXACTLY like Bun B.

Menelik Watson to Raiders. His highlight film is all basketball? How can you play basketball in 2000 and get drafted to the NFL in 2013? I guess there is enough time since he transferred down to Juco then back up to FSU. Seems like a reach for such a raw prospect.

Sapp is in the building. Let the fun begin. Bucs take Jonathan Banks. Another pick that we’ve mocked before in the first. Now they have Banks…. and Revis. Matt Ryan and Drew Brees: come at us, bro.

Carolina better take DJ Swearinger…. and it’s Kawaan Short. Star and Short? The last time they tried this, both DTs were busts… just saying, hopefully it works out THIS time.

Cards take Minter. Good solid pick to pair with Washington. Very next pick Bills draft Kiko Alonzo.

Dallas takes Gavin Escobar. Not very familiar with him. Looks like a useful tight end. Why is Merrill Hodge on stage. Did this dude really say #Factorback on stage? Well, the pick s Le’Veon Bell. Another pick we’ve mock in the first in previous mocks.

Giants take Hankins out of The Ohio State. He will clog the middle with Linval Joseph.

Lavar Arrington in the building! Amerson to the Skins.

Ravens draft OLB Arthur Brown. Will help this linebacker rotation with no Ray Lewis available.

Broncos take Montee Ball… over Eddie Lacy? I like the guy, but think his career will be short. And as I type this McShay says the exact same thing. Very productive back and we have a big line, not bad.

Falcons can get Lacy or Damontre Moore…. hmmm…. let’s see. PRIME IS IN THE BUILDING, so this better be good. Rob Alford CB is the pick. Wait, is this guy’s highlight film in 280p? Let me stop. As I said in my final 2013 mock, this CB situation in Atlanta is at CODE RED so they need him to be productive asap.

Packers scoop up the falling Eddie Lacy. Again, another pick that was easily mocked in a previous round 1.

Last pick of round two Christine Michael goes to Seattle. Quick back, explosive, and a perfect compliment to what they already do.

That’s about it for round 2. Pretty much a bunch of picks we thought would happen in round 1 happened here due to teams moving around in round 1 to grab players they absolutely couldn’t live without (EJ Manuel?)

For the record, YA BOY finished 16th overall in the Huddle Report Mock Draft Scoring.

That’s better than:

Mel Kiper Jr – ESPN

Gil Brandt – NFL Network

…and 99 other bloggers

…but who’s counting?
