Lloyd was shipped to the St. Louis Rams for a 6th round pick in the 2012 NFL Draft. That 6th can be upgraded to a 5th if Lloyd catches 30 passes the remainder of the season.

Lloyd is a 30 year old WR who has been on like 5 NFL teams so far. He’s only had one good year, last year, and isn’t in the class of Calvin and Andre Johnson. The thought of him being a dominant #1 WR is laughable. Many Broncos fans feel that Lloyd was let go too cheaply but you have to look at it like this- at least you got something for him.

The Rams are winless and still need help on offense. The Broncos have one win and are in total rebuild mode. The rest of the season is nothing but an audition for Tim Tebow, Knowshown Moreno, and the rest of Josh McDaniels’ disappointing draft picks.

Expect to see the Broncos totally clean house this off-season. Lloyd was just the first domino to fall.

“I can tell you unequivocally that if you talk to John Elway and John Fox,” Mortensen said, “they will tell you emphatically that Brady Quinn is absolutely in the mix in terms of the competition for the starting job. They are not handing it to Tim Tebow. They are not handing it to Kyle Orton. They may have a depth chart to start out, but I know in communicating and speaking to both men that Brady Quinn is not forgotten.”

Is this the same Brady Quinn that couldn’t keep Derek Anderson off the field in Cleveland? The same Brady Quinn who was traded for Peyton Hillis in the deal of the century for the city of Cleveland? The same Brady Quinn who looked like he met his receivers in the parking lot during the preseason?

Honestly, I don’t expect much to come of this. Tom Brandstater was a better option than Quinn for the Denver Broncos. But if Elway and Fox are serious about possibly starting him, I’m pretty sure that someone in Dove Valley is sipping that juice… shout out to Jamarcus Russell.

According to the creator of the Wonderlic test, a score of below 10 may be a sign of “literacy problems.” Now there have been several players who have done well in the league with low scores on this test including Vince Young and Frank Gore so we should not be so quick to throw the book (pun intended) at Mr. Peterson.

In related news, Prince Amukamara got 35 out of the 50 selections correct.

This is HUGE for John Elway and John Fox. Not only do they get to keep their best player but they also don’t have to be forced to draft a cornerback #2 overall. That money can be better spent getting Daquan Bowers, or trading down and getting a JJ Watt or a Cameron Jordan a few spots later.

Here are the details per Denver Post:

As it turned out, Champ Bailey probably took less than market value to stay with the Broncos. The four-year contract the Broncos gave Champ Bailey is the richest ever for a cornerback who is past 30 years old.

Bailey will turn 33 in June and will be 36 in 2014, the final year of his deal.

The industry will report this as a four-year, $43 million contract (he can push it to $47 million with incentives like Pro Bowl appearances, which in Bailey’s case are hardly unreachable) with $22 million guaranteed.

Here’s how it breaks down: Bailey will receive a fully guaranteed $11 million salary in 2011, $11 million in 2012, and $10.5 million in both 2013 and 2014.

Continuing with the new 32 in 32 series let’s take a look at my favorite team, the Denver Broncos. Now I won’t get too personal in how I feel the Broncos should draft but rather let’s look at this from a logical standpoint as to what will probably happen.

John Fox comes in as the new head coach after the train wreck that was Josh McDaniels’ tenure in Denver. McDaniels drafted five, yes five first round picks in two years and depending on what you think about Tim Tebow all five may turn out to be busts. Knowshon Moreno has just one 100 yard rushing performance in two years, Robert Ayers made no noise even after Elvis Dumervil’s injury, Alphonso Smith is no longer a Bronco (not a first rounder, but a first rounder was traded to get the selection that drafted him), Demariyus Thomas’ career may be already over due to injury, and Tim Tebow is a huge question mark so far.

So to say that Fox has to start his tenure off with a pick that will make a difference is an understatement. Here are the top three selections I see the Broncos making:

1. Daquan Bowers DE Clemson

A lot of fans may be weary about this selection but it does make logical sense. The Broncos need a young playmaker on the defensive line, and Bowers will be the best player that fits that bill once Carolina selects Nick Fairley #1 overall. The only “knock” on Bowers is that he has had a one year meteoric rise to the top of the draft board, but in all reality it’s not really a knock at all.

2. Marcel Dareus DT Alabama

What? Yes another defensive lineman should be considered before looking elsewhere. Dareus has had two very solid years in the $EC, including last year’s championship run. Dareus is a guy that can play DE or DT and while he doesn’t have the hype of a Nick Fairley he may end up being the better pro once it is all said and done. The Broncos desperately need a young, athletic player on that defensive line and if for some reason they don’t believe in Daquan Bowers’ they could look at Dareus as their guy.

3. Patrick Peterson CB LSU

Champ Bailey’s contract situation is in a perpetual state of limbo as I type, and if he decides that the grass is greener elsewhere the Broncos would need a young corner to fill the void. Perrish Cox is facing jail time and cannot be counted on to be that guy. With that said would the Broncos go with Peterson? They likely could.

Peterson gives value as an elite kick returner and some think he is a “can’t miss” corner prospect. While others see his struggles with bigger WRs as a red flag. It would not be the worst pick in the world, but the Broncos’ defense has been terrible for almost eight years now and you have to really wonder if a defensive coach who just had Julius Peppers on his defense would really rebuild from the outside-in? Not likely.

I don’t want to hear the excuses Bears fans, Jay Cutler apologists, Skip Bayless, etc. Your golden child Jay Cutler quit when all the marbles was on the line in the NFC Championship.

I was just reading Skip Bayless’ twitter page and that is what inspired me to write this post. How can you defend Jay Cutler? He quit. He is a quitter. And Sunday wasn’t the first time he quit.

Skip Bayless quickly tweeted “Favre often ripped for playing when shouldn’t have, killing team’s chances. Cutler tried to go, misfired. Drs. said bad idea. Put team 1st.”

First and foremost, stop comparing Brett Favre’s superhuman pain tolerance to Jay Cutler “putting his team first.” Did Jay REALLY believe TODD COLLINS was going to give his team the best chance to win? Lovie didn’t even believe that and pulled Collins after just FOUR PASS ATTEMPTS.

Let’s see what else Skip had to say on this.

“Cutler’s problem? He’s not sideline actor, grimacing, writhing, phony rah-rah. TV perception is reality. Haters say, “See, not hurt!”

Want to know how everyone knows Jay could have finished the game? Jay still had his helmet. Teams notoriously will steal a player’s helmet if they feel like he is going to seriously hurt himself if he re-enters the game. Jay was left with his helmet and was free to return at any moment he choose.

“JCutler is as tough physically AND MENTALLY as any NFL QB. No QB has taken more punishment in college & pros. Missed 1 start in 114!”

I agree with this. Jay Cutler typically doesn’t get hurt. But when he does in the BIGGEST GAME OF HIS CAREER…. he can’t suck it up and give his team a shot to win it? Let’s be serious again. No one believes in Todd Collins.

“Because JCutler doesn’t cater to media or fans, he’s now 2nd most hated in NFL to Favre. Billions of haters leaping to say HE QUIT!”

Don’t even try that ad-homenim argument. Because Jay Cutler isn’t friendly to the media, he all of sudden isn’t a quitter? Makes no sense. Those qualities are 100% independent of one another. Either people like you or they dont. Most don’t like Jay Cutler. Either Cutler quit or he didn’t. He quit. Those events have no bearing on one another!

But Jay Cutler didn’t quit just on Sunday. He quit on the Broncos in 2009 as well. Before he could even sit down and get things straight with Pat Bowlen and Josh McDaniels, Jay elected to put his house on the market and let Bus Cook do his billing. He never gave McDaniels or the new staff a chance after they admitted they tried to trade him, but elected not to. Jay simply QUIT on the organization after McDaniels failed to tell him he was untradable.

Jay Cutler was a quitter in Denver, and now he is a quitter in Chicago as well. The book on him is being written and it isn’t a feel good story. It’s the story of a young man who is a habitual quitter, with a bad attitude to boot.
