It finally happened. The Washington Redskins are going to retire the name Redskins after Fedex publicly pressured the club to do so. This is amazing considering that owner Dan Snyder has publicly said he would never change the name but of course money talks.

It’s always been about money. That’s why Washington’s always had drama over the years regarding the stadium, training camp location, and even with specific player contracts.

According to Sports Business Journal, the #Washington Redskins will announce they are retiring the #Redskins nickname on Monday.

Well, at least the name will change and they can move forward from there.

My favorite idea is renaming the team to WFC Washington Football Club.

Here are a few ideas I mocked up in Photoshop for the Redskins new team identity:

The Washington Football Team has a lot of reflecting to do after a season in which they started four different quarterbacks and may have lost Alex Smith forever. Regardless of if he comes back in 2019, this team can no longer trot out a team that features Alex Smith, Vernon Davis, and Adrian Peterson as it’s main playmakers (what year is this?!) It is time to rebuild on the fly and catch Dallas before it is too late. I think all Washington fans agree with that.

Draft expert Draftp is back with his thoughts on the situation in DC.

Check below for his 2019 Redskins mock draft:

This is my first draft in a very long time so please bare with me as I need to get back in a groove. Redskins draft needs are QB, LG, S, CB, OLB, ILB, WR, RB.

1. Redskins: Drew Lock QB Missouri
Rd 1, The Redskins need to look towards the future and develop a young QB with talent. Can anyone but Dan Snyder argue this fact? Lock has all the tools needed to succeed in Jay Gruden’s offence.

2. Redskins: Chris Lindstrom OG Boston College
Rd. 2 The Redskins have a gapping hole at LG so picking a plug and play guard on the second day of the draft is a must. Lindstrom has been kicking serious ass in the Senior Bowl practices this week and his draft stock is on the rise. I would not be surprised at all if he goes at the end of the 1st round. In my mind the best scenario for the Skins is to extend Scherff’s contract and then move him over to LG then start Linstrom at RG. I really like the idea of pairing Trent Williams and Branden Scherff on the left side and I think Moses is a good savvy vet that would pair well with Linstrom on the right side.

3. Redskins: Johnathan Abram S Mississippi State
Rd. 3 The Redskins need help in the secondary both at CB and S. Abram can play both FS and SS, he has some good cover skills that can be further developed plus he is a solid tackler and a fierce hitter. He could develop into a solid starter sooner rather than later.

4. Redskins: Jaylon Ferguson DE Louisiana Tech
Rd. 3 The Redskins will need help at pass rusher because they are so cash strapped and probably can’t afford to extend Scherff and resign starting OLB Preston Smith too. In comes Ferguson who has some solid pass rush skills and could develop into a starter. He might even be able to win this job out right in training camp because of how weak the Skins are at that position.

5. Redskins: Khalil Hodge ILB Buffalo
Rd. 5 It is hard to figure out what the Skins really have at inside linebacker. I figure until the play improves in the middle the Skins will still need to invest in help. I would roll the dice on a tackling machine like Hodge can develop into a solid player.

6. Redskins: CB Jamal Peters from Mississippi St.
Rd. 5 I have the Redskins drafting CB Jamal Peters from Mississippi St. One thing I noticed while scouting Johnathan Abram is that Peters was in on a lot of the same plays. Scouting Peters further showed me a solid corner that has good speed and athleticism with solid NFL size. Could earn a spot on the team as a special teams guy or start the year on the Practice Squad.

7. Redskins: WR Denzel Mims from Baylor
Rd. 6 I have the Redskins drafting WR Denzel Mims from Baylor. Mims is another size and speed guy that has a chance to develop into an NFL contributor at some point but he will need a year or so on the Practice Squad to further develop his skills.

8. Redskins: Bryce Love RB Stanford
Rd. 7 I have the Redskins drafting yet another running back. Love has fallen down the draft boards as of late but a player with his speed can make a big splash as a potential replacement for the often injured Chris Thompson. If nothing else Love will be an insurance policy just in case CT can’t go again this season. The Redskins can not afford to keep so many injury prone players on their roster if they truly want to compete in the NFC East next season.

We are patiently awaiting the beginning of the NFL season. In between the dog days of summer, fans are getting out of the heat and heating up our mock draft boards. Draftp is back dropping Redskins mocks to keep everyone tuned in.

DC fans appreciate the positive direction of the franchise but every team in the NFL could use more firepower. What players is Dan Snyder’s squad likely to add? Ask no further.

Here is the latest 2017 Washington Redskins mock draft:

This is my knee jerk reaction draft to the lose of pass rusher Junior Galette. The Redskins team needs remain the same as my last mock draft but the priority of the positions have definitely changed. Team needs; OLB, OL, DL, S, WR, RB…

1. Redskins: Tim Williams OLB Alabama

Rd. 1, Pick 22. The Redskins select OLB Tim Williams 6-3, 237 lbs. The Redskins top priority in this draft is adding quality depth to their pass rush. Williams maybe the best natural pass rusher in this draft. He has the best spin move I’ve seen since Dexter Manley. He would give the Redskins the edge speed rusher they thought they were getting with Junior Galette. I thing that even though Williams is a bit light to be a true 34OLB, he has the frame to add weight.

2. Redskins: Dan Voltz C Wisconsin

Rd. 2, Pick 54. The Redskins select C Dan Voltz 6-3, 305 lbs. Voltz is solid in both the run and passing games. He pulls well and can get to the second level blocks. He has the size the Redskins need and should be an upgrade.

3. Redskins: Quin Blanding S Virginia

Rd. 3, Pick 84. The Redskins select FS Quin Blanding 6-1, 215 lbs. The Redskins need to continue to add youth to the secondary. Blanding should be able to eventually replace D. Hall.

4. Redskins: Corey Davis WR Western Michigan

Rd. 4, Pick 117. The Redskins select WR Corey Davis 6-3, 213 lbs. The Redskins needs a young guy to go along with Doctson and Crowder. Davis runs the whole route tree, has break away speed, can go up and attack contested ball and win most of the time.

The season is almost upon us. With approximately 50 days until the kickoff of the season, fans are anticipating the 2016 season. Especially in DC where they have tendered QB Kirk Cousins with a one year franchise deal. Is he the real deal? We’ll see.

Regardless, the Redskins will need help going forward building this team. Who will they take in the 2017 NFL Draft? Draftp has the answers. (Want to make your own draft? Join the community.)

Check out his 2017 Redskins Mock Draft Below:

In this mock draft I’m looking to add some quality depth on both lines and add some more weapons on offense while still bolstering the linebacking corps and the secondary too. Team needs; DL, OL, WR, FS, ILB, OLB

1. Redskins: Malik McDowell DT Michigan State

Rd. 1, Pick 22. The Redskins select DT/DE Malik McDowell 6-6, 280 lbs. McDowell is a good fit for the Redskins at DE. He offers great size and length for the position and is a solid pass rusher. Needs to add size and stength so he doesn’t get pushed off the ball on running plays.

2. Redskins: Jehu Chesson WR Michigan

Rd. 2, Pick 54. The Redskins select WR Jehu Chesson 6-3, 200 lbs. The Redskins have an obvious need at WR, Chesson has a nice combination of size and speed. Could develop into a solid receiver.

3. Redskins: Dan Voltz C Wisconsin

Rd. 3, Pick 86. The Redskins select C Dan Voltz 6-3, 302 lbs. Voltz is a solid lineman that should be an upgrade for the Skins.

4. Redskins: Vince Biegel OLB Wisconsin

Rd. 4, Pick 117. The Redskins select OLB Vince Biegel 6-4, 246 lbs. Biegel is a team leader an a blue collar guy. Can play inside or outside, has a solid pass rush and covers well. Reminds me of a slightly smaller Ryan Kerrigan.

5. Redskins: Christian Tago ILB San Jose State

Rd. 4, Pick 125. The Redskins select ILB Christian Tago 6-0, 238 lbs. The Redskins will fall in love with the nonstop effort Tago brings on every play. Never ending motor, solid in coverage, solid in run support. Reads and reacts quickly.

This was a crazy week in the NBA. And it was an even crazier week in the #KD2DC sweepstakes. A lot has happened so let’s just wrap it up really quickly.

First, the Thunder traded Serge Ibaka for Victor Oladipo:

Thunder trade Serge Ibaka to the Magic in a multiplayer deal that includes Victor Oladipo: https://t.co/Utx02m2u0m pic.twitter.com/kg6yZrgYWF

— ESPN (@espn) June 24, 2016

This is likely to create scoring after KD is gone. Looks like the Thunder are moving forward with life after Kevin Durant. Even if KD stays for an additional year this gives the Thunder a more flexible cap going forward.

Secondly, the Wizards are giving Joakim Noah the true max:

Report: #Wizards prepping max offer for Joakim Noah https://t.co/7M3Zv7vQqT #WizardsTalk pic.twitter.com/ewM7Q0aYaz

— CSN Wizards (@CSNWizards) June 24, 2016

No, just, no. I feel sorry for Wizards fans. You tank the depth on this team to create the cap for… Joakim Noah?!! Joakim Noah?!!! You could have gotten him without tanking. Wow.

And finally, KD’s camp is leaking that he is leaning towards a “basketball decision:

Sources told ESPN that the list of teams that get to pitch Durant directly will grow before NBA free agency officially commences July 1 at 12:01 a.m. ET, but the list of confirmed suitors for now features the Thunder and their two main rivals in the Western Conference.

The Warriors and Spurs, sources say, are both already planning to load a plane full of key organizational figures.

This means that he is going to try to win a title and that won’t happen in DC for some time. Remember, all the Warriors have to do is let Harrison Barnes walk and they have the cap for KD. Looks like #KD2DC is over.

The Redskins are looking to build upon last year’s success in which the team reached the playoffs. While the Redskins did not win the championship, they did shock the league and take a fourth seed.

What will happen next year? With the additions of Josh Doctson, Kendall Fuller and veterans like Josh Norman you would think the sky is the limit.

Let’s take a look at the possible future draft picks as DraftP is back with his third installment of his early bird series.

Check out his 2017 Redskins mock draft below:

With this mock draft I’m still finding my way around this draft class. I’m using a variety of different media to form this draft but mainly Fanspeak’s On the Clock, CBS sports and YouTube. Team needs DL, OL, RB, S, WR

1. Redskins: Jamal Adams S LSU

Rd.1, Pick 22. The Redskins select SS/FS Jamal Adams 6-1, 211 Lbs. Adams appears to be a solid 1st round talent that shows great instincts and superior physical abilities. Solid tackler, ball hawk, big hitter. Adams versatility allows him to play either safety position at a high level.

2. Redskins: Jehu Chesson WR Michigan

Rd. 2, Pick 54. The Redskins select WR Jehu Chesson 6-3, 207 Lbs. Chesson has great size and athletic ability, break away speed with the moves to match. The Redskins may have to move up to get this guy but he would be worth it. Chesson would be a great pairing of talent for the future of the team with Crowder and Doctson already in the fold.

3. Redskins: Corey Clement RB Wisconsin

Rd. 3, Pick 86. The Redskins select RB Corey Clement 5-11, 219 Lbs. Clement’s stock has fell with some off the field issues last season but he is still a solid talent that should go much higher if not for the off the field concerns that come with him. He needs to have a stand out season to help rebound his draft stock. He is a solid runner with what looks like at least 4.5 speed. Show solid hands as a receiver but will need to work on pass protection in the pros. Has the potential to be a three drown workhorse type of running back.

4. Redskins: Christian LaCouture DT LSU

Rd. 4, Pick 117. The Redskins select DT Christian LaCouture 6-5, 307 Lbs. LaCouture is a solid space eater that can push the center back into the pocket. Not much of a pass rusher but a very good run stuffer. This makes him only a two down player in the pros. His value may drop into the later rounds if he can’t figure out some pass rushing moves. Solid player could be Kedric Golston’s replacement.

Wizards fans are keeping hope alive and now they are putting their money where their mouth is. That’s right, as of the time of this post fans are now ordering their own Kevin Durant Wizard jerseys.

Here is a tweet from @thinkprogress editor Aaron Rupar showing that he indeed has a Durant Wizards jersey in hand:

In lighter news, proud to be the owner of a Durant Wizards jersey. Cc @BulletsForever #KD2DC pic.twitter.com/xvcWTI8Duq

— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) June 13, 2016

You cannot order a KD Wiz jersey quite yet, but you can get them customized. The NBA store won’t allow you to put DURANT on the back but if you put DUR ANT it works.

Possibly in a few months fans won’t have to customize a jersey at all….

#KD2DC is still a pipe dream but that will not stop us from following this story. The Thunder’s big man has finally entered unrestricted free agency and his hometown Washington Wizards are desperate to sign him.

First it was arranging the roster to make sure a legit max was available for KD.

Then it was hiring KD’s old coach Scott Brooks.

Then it was the NIKE store in downtown DC mysteriously putting a floor-to-ceiling display of KD in the window.

Then it was a local rapper starting a GoFundMe to lure KD home.

And now… DURANT HAS LANDED IN DC:

No, the upcoming NBA free agent wasn’t back in his hometown to hear a pitch from the Washington Wizards, we don’t think anyway. Nah, unkosher at this point on the NBA calendar. Was he there for a game of hoops with President Barack Obama? Maybe, but if so that was secondary to the main reason for the Oklahoma City Thunder star’s visit.

Durant and Washington Redskins receiver Pierrre Garcon were among those supporting the My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Success Mentors Initiative, the White House announced. The initiative is designed to help chronic student absences in our country by “connecting over one million students who are or at risk of becoming chronically absent with trained school-linked caring adults and near-peers over the next 3-5 years.”

–CSN

KD’S in the town. That’s just one step closer… DC fans don’t get your hopes up quite yet but it’s looking good.

We are back with another mock draft. This one is again for the Washington Redskins. While the 2016-17 season has not started, it is still fun to project the different draft scenarios.

DraftP has once again dropped his thoughts on what he thinks Washington will do next year. It is early but you can appreciate the thought process behind each selection. We will see how it all pans out as the season goes on.

Check below to see the latest 2017 Washington Redskins mock draft:

This mock draft is more or less a tool towards getting a better understanding of the 2017 draft class. Redskins needs : DT, DE, WR, C, ILB, S, RB…

1. Redskins: Jamal Adams S LSU

Rd. 1, Pick 22. The Redskins select S Jamal Adams 6-1, 211 Lbs. Adams is a versatile safety with good size, very instinctive, always around the football, good ball skills and is a ball hawk.

2. Redskins: Dan Voltz C Wisconsin

Rd. 2, Pick 54. The Redskins select C Dan Voltz 6-3, 311 Lbs. Voltz has the size and strength the Redskins want for a starting center. Solid run blocker but needs work in pass protection.

3. Redskins: Corey Clement RB Wisconsin

Rd. 3, Pick 86. The Redskins select RB Corey Clement 5-11, 217 Lbs. Clement is a duel threat back that would be a very nice change of pace guy behind Mike Jones.

4. Redskins: Vince Biegel OLB Wisconsin

Rd. 4, Pick 117. The Redskins select OLB Vince Biegel 6-3, 246 Lbs. Biegel is a team leader high effort guy all good NFL teams want. Team first kind of guy. Blue chipper. Could play any linebacker position.

WAIT! This draft continues!

The Washington Redskins are coming off a successful 2015 season and looking forward to continuing the energy into 2016. The team lost a few key players this offseason such as Terrance Knighton but they were able to hang onto the most important player they have right now: QB Kirk Cousins.

In the 2016 NFL Draft, Washington selected WR Josh Doctson with their first round pick. In the second they grabbed S/LB Su’a Cravens, and in the third followed up with CB Kendall Fuller. Those three picks are among the best on paper that ANY team selected with their first three selections.

So how does Washington follow up in 2017?

Check out DraftP’s 2017 Redskins mock draft to find out:

At this time of the year mock drafts are more or less for giggles, still is a good time to start. Redskins needs: DT, WR, S, RB, DE, ILB, C, OLB

1. Redskins: Mike Williams WR Clemson

Rd. 1, Pick 22. The Redskins select WR Mike Williams 6-3, 220 Lbs. Williams was being considered as one of the top wideouts in 2015 before an freak injury ended his season. Williams and Josh Doctson would be a nice combination for the Redskins future passing attack.

2. Redskins: Quin Blanding S UVA

Rd. 2, Pick 54. The Redskins select FS Quin Blanding 6-1, 215 Lbs. from UVA. Quin is going to be on everyone of my mock drafts until he is drafted into the NFL so get used to it. His father and I went to high school together and he is a big time Redskins fan. If Quin comes to the Skins I would be willing to bet he wears his dad’s old number (#22). D. Hall looks to be holding down the FS position for the near future but the Skins still do not have any long term plans there in place yet. I’m throwing Quin’s name in the hat for the guy that will man that position after D. Hall retires. Quin has all the tools to be a solid pro player.

3. Redskins: Corey Clement RB Wisconsin

Rd. 3, Pick 86. The Redskins select RB Corey Clement 5-10, 219 Lbs. Clement should be a steal in the 3rd round and if Matt Jones can’t handle the starting job Clement could become the teams work horse.

4. Redskins: Vince Biegel OLB Wisconsin

Rd. 4, Pick 117. The Redskins select OLB Vince Biegel 6-3, 246 Lbs. from Wisconsin. Biegel is the type of blue collar defender Redskins GM Scotty Mac likes to draft. The Redskins are showing a trend to draft 3 down defenders and Biegel fits into that mold with his potential and versatility to play either ILB or OLB.
