According to multiple reports it seems like Darrelle Revis may be ready to hang it up. That’s right, the man known as “Revis Island” has apparently lost his love for the game and would like his career to end as soon as possible.

Revis has had some bad games this year but he is still a top corner in the league. I do know that he has some interests outside the game and he’s made more money than most of us will ever see so there is no need for him to hang around if he doesn’t want to.

He got a ring, came back to the Jets, made his money, what more is there left to do?

Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis may be ready to go to a different kind of island — the kind where one retires.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, a confidant of Revis said the veteran cornerback’s decline this year was tied to a lack of desire, and that his days with the Jets may be drawing nigh.

“He’s done,” the confidant said. “If he had his way, he’d be done right now. He doesn’t want to play anymore. He’s made a lot of money.”

Of course, without knowing the confidant or his motivations, it’s hard to know if that’s a career plan or a statement borne out of frustration, with a season that hasn’t gone as planned for anyone.

He sounded less than committed to the future earlier this week when he said: “We’ll see how it goes.” That’s a far cry from this summer, when the 31-year-old cornerback said he was “going to play until the wheels fall off.”

Perhaps they have, as his play has declined all season.

But the Jets still have to make an expensive decision this offseason, as they could save $9 million of cap space by cutting him, unless he wants to take a pay cut. He’s never shown any indication that’s anything he’d consider, but if his motivation is lacking, it’s also reasonable to wonder if the Jets want him to.

Report: Darrelle Revis “doesn’t want to play anymore”

Happy retirement to one of the GOATS if true.

Risky move, but benefits both teams immediately. Jets don’t have to pay a CB $16+ mil as they rebuild and the Bucs get a CB better than who they could have drafted at #13 overall.

Now that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed Dashon Goldson and sured up the safety position, word is that they have turned towards the corner spot as the next place of need. Most mocks have the Buccaneers drafting some corner so trading for Jets CB Darrelle Revis wouldn’t be a bad move.

Ironically in our latest we have them replacing DaQuan Bowers with a defensive end. However, trading the pick altogether for Revis isn’t out of the question according to Mark Dominik:

Bucs general manager Mark Dominik said Monday at the NFL meetings in Phoenix that he hasn’t ruled out including the 13th overall pick in a compensation package for Revis, according to the Tampa Bay Times. That’s a key development, because it was previously reported they wouldn’t surrender their No. 1 in next month’s draft.

“If we think it’s in the best interest of the team, we will do something — if that’s a player that everybody is speculating [Revis] or maybe it’s a player at a position that nobody has thought about,” Dominik told the newspaper.

Source: http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/story/_/id/9068525/tampa-bay-buccaneers-ruled-giving-first-round-pick-darrelle-revis

It may be better off if the Buccaneers wait.

The market for Revis is obviously not at the price the Jets are asking. Outbidding yourself is usually a mistake in any deal. Simply let Revis play out his last year with the Jets, then put the full-court press on him in free agency.

Yesterday the Seattle Seahawks made a power move when they acquired Percy Harvin from the Vikings. While many are applauding the move, I am among those that are skeptical over the value. Three players for Percy Harvin? Including a first rounder? It seemed a little steep to me.

Guess who it didn’t seem steep to? Former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum. He believes his former squad should get the same if not probably more for CB Darrelle Revis:

“You look at the Percy Harvin trade, where it was a one, looks like a three in the future, and a seven this year,” Tannenbaum said. “I would think that would be comparable to what Darrelle is. They both have one year to go on their contracts. Obviously, he would have to pass a physical. Assuming that happens, I think that’s the relevant market.”

Considering this is the guy that traded for Tebow… I don’t know if you want to take his words for stone. Yes, Revis is worth some value but three players? I’d offer the Jets two mid round picks, at best.
