The ESPYs opened with a powerful moment from the “Banana Boat” Crew of Carmelo Anthony, Lebron James, Chris Paul, and Dwayne Wade. These men called for action from their fellow athletes as well as the community at large. Chris Paul and Wade’s parts are especially chilling.

It must stop. The victim blaming must stop. The police violence must stop. Preservation of life must be the talking point in dealing with police/civilian interactions. And that is on both sides. People do not need to be arming themselves against a government that quite frankly offers them the best opportunity and freedoms in the known world as a birth right.

I hope these worlds did not fall on deaf ears. Yes I myself just published an article that declared that “Black Lives Don’t Matter” but the nation’s citizens can change that if they choose. It starts with the little things. Those little things can snowball into something great for the state of America at large.

I hate to break Laker Nation’s hearts but this blog must be written. Yes, I know Carmelo is in Los Angeles right now playing pickup with Kobe and having a good ol’ time but it is what it is. Carmelo is not coming to the Lakers.

Why? Very simple. New York is still the better option. Let’s chop this fable and break down the reasons why:

1. $30 Million Dollars

That is what year five is worth in New York. That year five that the Lakers cannot even offer with their “full max” (four year) offer. The funny thing is that Charlotte has the cap room to offer the same exact number, and Melo is team Jordan, yet the media doesn’t talk about that because it doesn’t get clicks…

2. Kobe and What Army?

What is Carmelo really coming to? No one really knows how Kobe’s knee will hold up again. Let’s say for worst case scenario’s sake, Kobe has a Dwyane Wade like “mini falloff” and only plays 50-60 games. That leaves Melo playing a third of the season with who? Julius Randle (rookie), Robert Sacre, Steve Nash (41 years old), and MAYBE Swaggy P Nick Young… if they can even outbid the market for him?

3. Phil Jackson

Phil is clearly working a long term vision for this team. Yes, Cleanthony Early is not going to win you a Eastern Conference finals next year, but chances are Carmelo isn’t going to play in the Conference Championship of either conference anyways. Why not let Phil continue the plan? The Knicks are aggressively moving malcontents and bad contracts off this squad (Ray Felton, Tyson Chandler.) Next year Melo will basically be able to hit the reset button on his Knicks career… and did I mention there is a $30 million dollar fifth year at the end of that road?

Fact of the matter is: as attractive as Los Angeles is, Melo will be a Knick.

*slaps table like Skip Bayless*

Book it!

With Phil Jackson as the President, the Knicks can still offer Carmelo an attractive package but “win now” situations like Chicago, Houston, and possibly Miami are going to peak his attention. If I had to put money on it I’d bet Carmelo will stay with the Knicks but we’ll see.

Oh boy. If this happens the NBA may never be the same again. Word that is making rounds today is that Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony may be looking to take his talents to South Beach to form a feared foursome with Chris Bosh, Dwayne Wade, and Lebron James.

Could Carmelo Anthony really sign to the Heat in 2015? Well some salaries would have to be adjusted, but it isn’t out of the picture:

The mere concept would require the star trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to all opt out of their current contracts by the end of the month and likely take further salary reductions in new deals that start next season to give Miami the ability to offer Anthony a representative first-year salary. The Heat also are prevented from making any formal contact with Anthony until July 1 and can do so then only if he opts out of the final year of his current contract. Anthony has until June 23 to notify the Knicks of his intentions, according to sources.

ESPN

Carmelo is one of the best scorers in the league right now and the Heat often struggle to find offense outside of Lebron James. This may end up not happening but its fun to think about. Lebron, Carmelo, and Wade on one team? One basketball may not be enough.

What is your favorite team going to do this off-season? Will they make there move and try for a Lebron caliber player? Find out below!

1. Lebron James (MIA) Player option exercised.

2. Carmelo Anthony (NYK). Despite all the rumors swirling around Melo and the Knicks organization, the Knicks will be back next year with something to prove, and should have no problem bouncing back after what could be considered a lost season. PROJECTED DEAL: 5yrs

3. Dwayne Wade (MIA) Player option exercised.

4. Chris Bosh (SA)

5. Pau Gasol (LAL)

6. Lance Stephenson (CHA). It was rumored at the deadline that the Bobcats were looking to make a push for a guard like Aaron Affalo or even Even Turner. This signing would fill that need and, be a better move than trading assests for a guy. PROJECTED DEAL: 4yrs 55mil

7. Dirk Nowitzki (DAL)

Word is, from ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony is planning to leave the Knicks after this season. This is coming off a disaster year in which the Knicks will likely miss the playoffs in a very weak Eastern Conference. Carmelo will be a free agent and can opt to sign elsewhere if he exercises his player option.

Here is what Stephen reported:

“I was told this last week, I was told a few days ago, I had it reiterated to me by somebody I trust yet again this morning, that Carmelo Anthony is gone, he is leaving New York city,” Smith said on ESPN’s First Take. “And he is gone because he’s at the mindset that in order to achieve any amount of success he would had to sacrifice not just this this year but next year as well, because of this current roster.”

With Phil Jackson coming in, I don’t look for the Knicks to make many moves. They will recruit Melo to stay, but if he leaves then I see New York sitting on their laurels for a year while Amare Stoudemire and Tyson Chandler’s deal’s expire.

What do you think? Will the Knicks keep Melo or is he gone?!
