ESPN’s own Todd McShay has updated his television mock draft and has Nassib slotted at #8 to the Bills.  Conventional thought is that Nassib’s college coach Doug Marrone will not be able to resist starting his professional regime without his quarterback.  The Bills cut Ryan Fitzpatrick and the owner has said publicly he wants a “franchise” quarterback….

Many draft pundits including yours truly have projected this move for months so I am not sure about all of the “heat” McShay claims he is getting regarding the selection.  Currently I have Nassib being selected in a projected trade but previously had him at #8 overall to no complaints.

Three days left. We’ll see what happens!

Tyler Bray is a third or fourth round prospect right now after a down year at Tennessee. In that final season Bray accomplished 3612 yards with 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions before ultimately getting benched at the very end of the year. He showed up at the combine 6’6, 232 pounds so he certainly looks the part of franchise QB…. but can he be trusted with the keys?

Buffalo wants to know.

With that said, Buffalo is in the hunt for a franchise Quarterback. With a new coach Doug Marrone bringing a new attitude to the franchise of course you want a new young quarterback to help the team “buy in” to the new guy’s philosophy. Of course the best option would be drafting Marrone’s college quarterback of the last three years in Ryan Nassib… right?

Well according to all reports, the Bills are serious about Geno Smith and EJ Manuel.

There is obviously no need to scout Nassib as much as Smith and Manuel so this staff has to make sure they leave no stone unturned. Imagine if Nassib is selected at pick #8 overall over a EJ Manuel or Geno Smith and completely washes out of the league in five years, not that it’s likely to happen, but there would be a lot of crow to eat for all involved. Just because you know a guy well doesn’t always mean he is the best guy for the job. If EJ Manuel or Geno Smith grade out higher and are available then Buffalo absolutely should make the move.

Well, all of that is null and void because the Bills have made a bold move and set Fitzpatrick free. Here is the official word:

You know what that means…. the Bills will be drafting a quarterback. Are they showing their hand for Geno Smith too soon? Or wil Doug Marrone dare to take his college quarterback Ryan Nassib with a top 10 pick?

Who would have thought that two out of the three would end up Buffalo Bills?

Well that’s exactly what happened today as Vince Young has inked a deal to backup Ryan Fitzpatrick. This may be a good spot for Vince. Backup Fitzpatrick, get a few reps here and there, and stay out of the spotlight. We know he certainly won’t be dropping any more “Dream Team” bombs in Buffalo.

It is looking like Vince will never get back to starting in the league again.  If Buffalo offers the job Vince should take it, grab a NIKE sideline hat and be the backup to Ryan Fitzpatrick.

The thing that haunts the Bills is for every gem they find, there is an extreme lack of production for their top NFL draft picks. You have Lodis McKelvin benched, Aaron Maybin released, and CJ Spiller underperforming in his role as the team’s future running back.

The Bills have been competitive in many games this year but they still need a lot of help on defense to get over the hump. What will they do in the draft?

1	Bills		Burflict, Vontaze ILB from Arizona State With Marcell Dareus and Kyle Williams on the defensive line and with young talent Kelvin Shepperd at linebacker,adding Vontaze Burflict would make the Bills have one of the strongest front 7 in all of football
2	Bills		Gilmore, Stephon CB from South Carolina Many people believe that the Bills need a pass rusher but I believe that the Bills want to enhance their secondary. Stephon Gilmore is a corner that I am very high on and I believe that he will be able to come in and start from day 1
3	Bills		Irvin, Bruce OLB from West Virginia The Bills finally selected a pass rusher. Bruce Irvin was unbelievable last season recording nearly 15 sacks and this year he has become a more complete player while still reaching double digit sacks. Irvin will be a great player in the NFL for years to come.
4	Bills		Broyles, Ryan WR from Oklahoma Ryan Broyles has been a phenomenal player at Oklahoma throughout his time there. He has been Landry Jones go to receiver and I have a feeling he will be Ryan fitzpatricks to. Although Broyles doesn’t have the prototypical size he can be a great slot receiver and even beat you on the deal routes as well.
5	Bills		Moore, Kellen QB from Boise State The Bills will be looking to add a developmental QB to learn behind Ryan Fitzpatrick. Kellen Moore is the winningest QB in college football history and a heisman runner up.
6	Bills		Harris, Cliff CB from Oregon Many people may look at this pick and be shocked but I see Cliff Harris falling in this draft. He was a great player for Oregon last year but this year all he has been is drama and trouble. He a phenomenal kick/punt returner and a very good cover corner but teams may stay away because of all the drama.
7	Bills		Schwartz, Mitchell OT from California The Bills will be looking to add another offensive lineman

Harvard’s finest quarterback already has thrown seven touchdowns to just one interception and one sack this year.  Insane numbers for any quarterback, even though he did only play the Raiders and Chiefs so far.  However the way Fitz brought the Bills down for the game winning drive was something of the OLD Buffalo magic from back in 92′. Jim Kelly would be proud.

There has been talks of Fitzpatrick getting an extension floating around. And from the looks of it the Bills want to make it happen too.  Chan Gailey has been quoted as saying he “cannot think of anyone else being his quarterback.”  So definitely the Bills aren’t drafting a QB in the 2012 NFL Draft and it is just a matter of coming to the numbers with Fitzpatrick and his agent.

Kevin Kolb got 21 mil guaranteed for 7 career starts… so you know Ryan stands to cash in at around the $30-35 million range.

Aaron Maybin was a player coming out of Penn State who many overrated because of his physique and not because of his actual football abilities. Kinda sounds like Vernon Gholston who oddly enough plays the same position!

When Maybin was drafted I wrote:

He has noticeably gained some weight. You got to take a pass rusher or a OT if you’re Buffalo. Oher waits until later, Maybin is going to help out Leodis and crew a lot. I like this pick… for Denver.

Yes, Aaron Maybin was drafted before Brian Orakpo and yes, Josh McFailure drafted Knowshon Moreno instead. Let me take a moment to pick myself up from this facepalm…

And now, the Bills have had enough and cut the “all ski mask” (guys who steal their game checks) team leader. Maybin collected $15 million dollars while accounting for 15 career tackles. We aint talkin’ bout sacks, we talkin’ bout tackles!

Aaron is probably best noted for the rap song he created “MaYHEM” instead of his actual playing career. Maybe Delonte West or Chris Johnson will sign him to a record deal?
