Ohio State just lost a 17-14 heart-breaker at home to Michigan State, a game in which the Buckeyes needed to extend their 23 game win streak and compete for another National Title.

Regardless of the rain, wind, etc. conditions Ohio State fans and players alike are baffled at the lack of aggression in the play-calling down the stretch. Heisman candidate and superstar back Ezekiel Elliot has already blown some steam off and announced he’s going pro within minutes of losing the game.

Elliot finished the game with less than 40 rushing yards and is out:

Ezekiel Elliott said he will not be returning to OSU next year.

— Bill Rabinowitz (@brdispatch) November 22, 2015

Elliott: "We weren't put in position to win this game." Said he lobbied Meyer on sideline for calls and did not get them.

Elliott: "I think I do deserve more than 11 carries. … I don't know what was going on."

There are a lot of NFL teams that can use him. No one is disappointed in this decision outside of Colombus, Ohio.

And then there was Cardale Jones delivering this bomb on twitter:

Last time walking down them steps and into The Shoe, wish the results were different tho pic.twitter.com/BalXhHTOS7

Looks like someone else won’t be back next year.

Cardale “12 GAGE” Jones is starting off 2015 just as good as he finished 2014. Against Virginia Tech he led Ohio State to an exciting victory while posting a respectable stat line of 9/18, 182 yards, 2 td, 1 int.

With all the excitement around this team right now, one has to ask if Cardale Jones on his way to being the #1 overall draft pick? Many draft pundits have already elevated him to that spot for what that’s worth.

Jones is a big 6’5/6’6 guy with a cannon for an arm and a toughness to stand tall under pressure in the pocket. He’s a leader and a good guy in the community. But he isn’t the #1 pick. At least not yet.

Why?

Simply because we haven’t even seen what his teammate Joey Bosa has to offer this season. Bosa was suspended for one game for violating team rules. Ohio State has so much talent it isn’t even far-fetched they may have not only the #1 overall pick on their squad, but the #2 as well.

Even though its still too early to hype Ohio State’s freshman quarterback J.T. Barrett, I think anyone that checked out the Buckeye passer last weekend was pleasantly surprised. Barrett displayed a command of the game that is among his years. It’s a testament to Urban Meyer’s QB friendly system, yes, but Barrett is showing flashes of having enough talent to play on the next level.

He isn’t a flashy runner in the mold of the guy he replaced (Braxton Miller) nor the quarterback before him (Terrelle Pryor,) but J.T. is already one of the Buckeyes’ best runner with 582 yards and 8 touchdowns. His passing completion percentage is a respectable 64% with just 7 interceptions and a 9 yard-per-pass average.

At #8 Michigan State J.T. put on a show that has scouts quietly keeping an eye on him in hopes he matures into a top NFL Draft prospect:

With J.T. Barrett performing brilliantly in place of an injured Braxton Miller, there’s no longer any doubt who the Big Ten’s top contender is in the national title race.

Barrett threw for three touchdowns and ran for two more in a sensational performance, and No. 14 Ohio State scored almost at will against Michigan State’s vaunted defense, beating the eighth-ranked Spartans 49-37 on Saturday night.

Barrett went 16-of-26 for 300 yards against the Spartans. Ohio State’s first drive of the game ended in a missed field goal, and another early possession fell apart because of penalties. Aside from that, the Buckeyes scored a touchdown every time they had the ball until they punted in the final minute of the game.

-ESPN

What do you think? Can J.T. Barrett keep this pace of play and become a top draft prospect?

Braxton Miller is setting himself up to be in serious contention for the Heisman in just his second year of college football, due to flourishing in Urban Meyer’s spread system. The same system that Tim Tebow won a Heisman, helped one National Championship team, and won another Championship with.

The thing is that Braxton is a much smoother athlete than Tebow ever was, and of course a better passer. Tebow is more of a “Bull in a China Shop” style runner, and a poorer passer.

Here is what Meyer had to say in an interview:

According to Fear the Hat — the blog of Lori Schmidt, a sports reporter with 97.1 The Fan — during Meyer’s call-in show with the station he was asked to compare Tebow, the greatest player during Meyer’s time at Florida, to Miller.

“Very similar guys,” Meyer said. “They’re both competitive human beings. They’re both very talented people. Braxton has more talent. Tim is probably more of a grinder.”

Pryor decided to leave Ohio State after the school revealed he would be suspended for the first five games next year.

I checked out ESPN’s “Mike and Mike” and Mike Golic is losing a lot of respect in my eyes. He was ranting about how Pryor was be given rewarded for “breaking the rules” and that it was horrible. HORRIBLE!

First of all, this isn’t a reward. This is a opportunity to TRY OUT. There is no guarantee Pryor will be drafted, and even once he is drafted there is no guarantee that he will make the team he goes to. He will have to actually EARN his way. Unlike what Golic thinks, there is actually a LOT of work ahead of Pryor for him to secure a pro career. Secondly, again with the “breaking the rules!” It has been reported by ESPN themselves that Ohio State made $2 million dollars last year selling the “Terrelle Pryor” #2 jersey. And guess how much Terrelle got? If you guess not a damn dime, you are correct! So Golic really needs to stop airing his fake elitism and look at this from the kid’s point of view.

I hope Pryor does well and EARNS his spot on a team. He will likely be a wildcat QB/WR. I do not see him as a QB in the league, and his potential at WR is far higher than any other position.

So Pryor has to lobby the NFL or sit at home for a year right? Problem solved?

*Puts on stupid mascot head*

NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND!

According to Yahoo!, Pryor has been permanently banned from contact with the University for the next five years and would have been declared ineligible by Ohio State had he stayed in school.

Ohio Statesaid in a letter to Pryor’s attorney Larry James today that the former quarterback has been “completely disassociated” with the program and would not have been reinstated to the team after his five-game suspension.

Source: Yahoo

This actually helps Pryors case. The fact that his school was planning to ban him behind the scenes is an unforeseen circumstance if I have ever heard of one.

I know it hurts to be the “fall guy”, but it’s time for Terrelle to focus on the next phase of his career. Maybe five years of not talking or thinking about Ohio State won’t be so bad.

According to Yahoo,

Citing “sources close to the program,” the Columbus Dispatch has confirmed rumors that ex-Buckeye All-American and 14-year NFL vet Mike Vrabel is returning to OSU as linebackers coach. The official announcement is expected on Monday.

This is huge considering Ohio State’s program almost fell apart thanks to Terrell Pryor and Jim Tressell. The return of key alums will go a long way in restoring the faith of the program’s backers.

We will see Monday if this pans out.

The show was great and I am sure it was one of the highest rated ESPN shows of the quarter. Pryor took Gruden’s questions head on, with no nonsense answers. When asked if he would play another position Pryor did not smack the table and declare “I’M A QUARTERBACK!” as most athletic passers do. He calmly said he’d like to try out for Quarterback as he learns his new position.

Pryor also admitted his mechanics needed to be sped up, and he needed to stop throwing bad passes into heavy coverage. But listening to Pryor answer the questions shows you that he is mature and ready for the NFL spotlight.

Gruden ended the segment with a tongue-in-cheek comment in which he claimed Pryor could be a “good football player”, making the clear distinction from saying Quarterback.
