Seven losses by four points or fewer. Nailbiter after nailbiter – all Green Bay losses. Oh, and there was something else going on, too. Aaron Rodgers was trying to replace Brett Favre. As you might recall, things got a little tense in Titletown.

That summer, Wisconsin native Phil Hanrahan moved from L.A. to Green Bay to cover the story of the new guy trying to replace the legend. He was there for the nailbiters, the Favre furor, the promise Rodgers showed, the mass firings at season’s end. Either play or don’t play!

How many years has it been since Brett Favre’s tearful “retirement” press release with the Packers? Three? And the man has “retired” once again in that time span.

I’m not trying to disrespect one of the best players to ever do it, but the man needs to stop jerking the public around. Either you are retired, or you are not. You got to stop dancing in and out of the sport like this is hop scotch. You really are tarnishing your own legacy every time you do this.

I see why the Packers were ready to cut this act from their offseason program. Its just a media circus. We got reporters sleeping on Brett’s lawn, another hiding behind Brett’s truck, and another staking out a Hattisburg, MS high school that Brett volunteers at. It’s crazy.

Somewhere Michael Jordan is like “just do it.”

Just come back.

I’m glad the media circus is finally over with the Packers trading Favre out of the NFL to the bottom of the AFC in the New York Jets. Many are hyping this situation, but I don’t feel the excitement. This feels like Thurman Thomas in Miami, Emmitt in Arizona, or Franco in Seattle.

Brett Favre is an all-time great but his best days are behind him. Seeing him in NY won’t be anything special. He’ll win a few games, make one or two highlights, but nothing special. He’s just another guy who doesn’t know when it’s over.

According to every breaking media outlet, Brett Farve has asked for the Packers to release him so he can sign on with another NFL franchise and play this season. Anyone with two eyes could have seen this one coming as the Packers seemed hell bent on drafting his replacement year after year (Rodger and Brohm currently on the roster).

Farve’s story will continue on elsewhere, but where? I’m guessing Baltimore or Chicago, with Minnesota and Miami being a darkhorse as well. But if you put a gun to my head, I’d say Baltimore because of their love of the over-the-hill QB and the lack of talent on the roster aside from Troy Smith, but they won’t give him a chance!
