Instead of the worst outside shooting team in NBA history grabbing those picks to fill a depleted roster, you already know what happened:

The Boston Celtics offered four first-round picks to the Charlotte Hornets for the chance to move up from No. 16 to No. 9. The Celtics were targeting Justise Winslow while the Hornets were settled on taking Frank Kaminsky.

And people that is why they’ll always be the Bobcats.

To put it as simple as possible: stop drafting these guys Jordan.

Stop drafting guys without a discernible elite skill. Frank Kaminsky is a taller, more fluid version of guys you already had in Noah Vonleh/Cody Zeller.

Seriously, why are you drafting 7 footers who don’t protect the rim or rebound? Just look at how that sentence looks when written down. A 7 foot player who doesn’t rebound or protect the rim.

*Sigh* And that is why they’ll always be the Bobcats.

Yet the BOBCATS select Frank Kaminsky. Yes, I will never call them the Hornets again. The Hornets were competitive. This bastardized version isn’t.

This is the guy that the Heat needed. If DWade decides he can’t live without his $20 million in Miami, they can fast track a rebuild around this kid. He isn’t Lebron but hey he’s better than Luol Deng. Lebron’s opting out but he isn’t returning to Miami. Or is he…. (I’m kidding.)

These don’t feature pinstripes as there may be some legal issue involved with the previous designer, but they are still slick. These jerseys have that 2014 feel to them without being all ridiculous. Can’t wait to see them in action.

It was something you never thought would happen. The same state that brought you Michael Jordan, Chris Paul, and a list too long to name of basketball talent was left in the cold without a team. The same franchise that led the NBA in attendance at one time was now in New Orleans. How could this happen? When would the suffering end?

That question was answered when BET founder Bob Johnson was granted the NBA’s 30th team: the Charlotte Bobcats.

The Bobcats were never an NBA powerhouse, never a yearly playoff team, heck… they weren’t even good, but finally we had a team. The franchise would become known more for its missed draft picks (Adam Morrison, Bismack Biyombo, DJ Augustin… ehhh) than anything that happened on the court, but that was okay. We had a team.

However, a playoff team did emerge from the expansion franchise. Twice. Once led by veteran warriors Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace and again just this season by the young buck Kemba Walker and the big man Al Jefferson.

So where does that led us going into the final day of the Charlotte Bobcats brand? All in all, the future looks good. Better than normal.

There is talent here in the fore-mentioned Kemba Walker and Al Jefferson. There are attractive trade pieces in Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Gary Neal. There is a bubbling, rapidly expanding city that will attract free agents. But what can fans look forward to?

As long as Michael Jordan and Richard Cho are in charge, expect more of the same. Expect more head scratching draft picks (Bismack over Klay Thompson and MKG over Dion Waiters, Andre Drummond, Bradley Beal AND Damian Lillard.) The jury is still out on Cody Zeller over Nerlens Noel, Ben McLemore, Trey Burke, and Michael Carter-Williams.

The team has assets in a top 12 protected selection from Portland and a top 8 protected pick from Detroit this year, but new Hornets fans shouldn’t hold their breath. This team’s management team has not shown the ability to transfer these assets to meaningful young talent or top flight veterans. The Hornets name will bring a lot of excitement and interest during the first few months but the new fans shouldn’t expect too much.

In the end, a Bobcat can change its jerseys but its still a Bobcat.

East:

This series should be a piece of cake for the Pacers, and it would but the struggles at the end of the seasons raised some questions about this team. Despite a sub .500 record Atlanta has talent and cannot be overlooked as the 8 seed. If the Pacers return to the team they were in the beginning of the year, Atlanta will have a serious challenge ahead of them. When this series is all said and done…

In my mind this is the biggest mis-match of the NBA playoffs. If the Bobcats want any chance at a monumental upset Al Jefferson will need to play his best basketball of his NBA career, maybe even more than that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist will need to find a way to contain Lebron James. Toronto has a chance to prove themselves this year as a 3 seed, as well does Washington as the 6 seed. Both teams in my mind have over achieved this season, but that doesn’t mean that these teams can be taken lightly. Kyle Lowry is in a contract year, and this series in my opinion will decide if he gets a max contract or not. Regardless the Raptors need to find a way to retain him. The Raptors may have the better record, but Washington is young and hungry. When this series is over…

This series is an exact rematch of the 2013 playoffs 1st round in which Chicago won. Chicago, again without Derrick Rose have found ways to win. Do words even need to be spoken? Bobcats fans are not happy about what the team did Thursday in the 2013 NBA Draft. Cody Zeller isn’t a terrible player but when you are as bad as the Bobcats and can’t manage to win the lottery, eentually you have to draft players with more explosive potential. Unless Zeller becomes the next Tim Duncan, they royally screwed up this pick.

The latest Sheridan Hoops NBA Mock Draft projects such a scenario. It seems like the Bobcats will again miss on drafting an inside scorer as they did when the Orlando Magic won Dwight Howard, and the Hornets Anthony Davis.
