Rumor is that the 49ers were looking to bring in some quarterbacks, and now they’ve got one of many players who will compete to play behind Colin Kaepernick. The 49ers have traded for the Jaguars former first round pick, Blaine Gabbert. It seems the Jags have decided to give up on the 10th pick in the 2011 draft.

The Jaguars will receive a 6th round pick for the quarterback’s services.

Here is the info:

The No. 10 overall pick in the 2011 draft never became the franchise quarterback former general manager Gene Smith envisioned when he traded two picks to get him and on Tuesday the Jaguars traded him to San Francisco for a sixth-round pick in this year’s draft and a possible conditional pick in 2015.

In his four years in Jacksonville, Gabbert threw for 4,357 yards 22 touchdowns and 24 interceptions.

Moe would be a “hard guy to get rid of if you brought him on your squad.” High praise for Moe, who is being projected anywhere from a late round to an undrafted prospect.

Moe didn’t put up great numbers during his Junior and Senior seasons, but did have 92 catches as a Sophomore. His production dipping as his career progressed isn’t an indictment on him. During his Sophomore season the Tigers had eventual first round pick Blaine Gabbert at QB. Once Gabbert left, James Franklin came in as more of a running threat, hurting Moe’s stats.

There have been comparisons of Moe to Rams WR Danny Amendola. Now I’m not sure if that’s because of his skin color or because he’s a reliable slot guy, but an Amendola type player in the late rounds is great value.

The Patriots would be perfect for Moe with the seemingly endless Wes Welker contract saga continuing on. Moe has quickness, but lacks overall speed or size. With the receiver draft being as deep as it is this season, I don’t see Moe being drafted. He’ll be snatched up the next day as a undrafted camp invitee.

It is no secret that Jaguars’ management is all in on Gabbert. They drafted Justin Blackmon this year and also signed Lee Evans and Laurent Robinson to nice contracts. All of this while Maurice Jones-Drew held out for a new contract.

MJD has every right to want more money. He plays the most taxing position on offense and led the NFL in rushing last season. He just saw every other running back get their extensions. It is only right that he’s next…. right?

Well the Jaguars aren’t even blinking. They have continued business as usual and what is even worse is that football is weeks away and MJD has not even met his new coach yet:

Jags coach Mike Mularkey told CBSSports.com’s Pete Prisco that he hasn’t even met holdout running back Maurice Jones-Drew yet.

“I don’t know him at all,” Mularkey told Prisco, adding that other than a few stray phone calls, there has been no contact. He added that running backs coach Sylvester Croom hasn’t either, but they weren’t allowing it to become a distraction.

“I don’t drive home or sit in my office worrying about it,” Mularkey said. “I don’t waste the energy.”

When you go 5-11 I think the #1 priority would be to get your best player in camp. But then again, that’s why the Jaguars are the Jaguars.

Here are the details regarding the transfer from CFT:

According to both the Card Chronicles, and ESPN radio, Gabbert has left the Cardinals football program and has no intention of returning. No reason was given for Gabbert’s about-face, and the school has yet to issue any type of clarification as to Gabbert’s status with the team. That clarification is not expected to occur until head coach Charlie Strong returns from vacation Wednesday.

In addition to leaving Louisville, Gabbert reportedly would like to return to Missouri. The only problem with that? His old school is apparently not inclined to reciprocate the interest in a reunion.

Tyler (@TylerGabbert) also tweeted on Twitter just yesterday:

Simple but great piece of advice, Just keep on keepin on.

Is that tweet related to this story?

I hope he figures it out and gets enrolled in a program soon. For a young QB all the time he can get with his coaches is invaluable. If I had to bet, I’d say you’ll see Tyler back at Missouri this fall.
