He was charged with DUI and quickly released from his contract with the San Francisco 49ers. By the end of this week, he may have a new team.

Even with the DUI arrests there are teams looking at Smith because of his pure talent. One of those teams is the New York Giants, who need a pass rusher because their current one…. yeah.

You could say the Giants are looking for a hand on defense (see what I did there.)

Let’s wait and see if the rumors are true and the Giants actually sign Aldon Smith:

Aldon Smith is still apparently a hot property in the NFL, despite the linebacker’s recent troubles.

Smith, who was released by the 49ers Friday after being arrested that morning, is apparently being eyed by several teams, according to Jordan Schultz of Huffington Post. Schultz specifically mentioned the New York Giants as having interest.

The 49ers have officially released Smith following a recent DUI arrest. Smith marks yet another 49er that was on this squad in 2014 who will not be suiting up in 2015.

Aldon has 44 career sacks including a whopping 19.5 in 2012. Remember I wrote in my final 2015 mock draft about him:

15. 49ers: Shane Ray DE/OLB Missouri
How much can one defense take? Justin Smith and Patrick Willis have decided to retire. Then there is the constant question of how long can Aldon Smith stay out of trouble?

Even with his citation, Ray fills a huge need at linebacker. Something tells me the Niners are going to use their newly less talented defense as a scapegoat to dump Smith….

Then I wrote after the 49ers drafted a player at his position:

49ers Harold, Eli OLB 6’3″ 247 Virginia
If he pans out as a top pass rusher, the 49ers will have a scapegoat to get away from Aldon Smith.
