By a man named Johnny Football.

That’s right, Johnny “Football” Manziel and his Texas A&M Aggies did the impossible and body slammed #1 Alabama at Alabama. It was a tough, slug-fest of what I like to call GROWN MAN FOOTBALL. If you love big defensive plays, big hits, and comebacks this was the game for you.

I am going to spare you all the details because we all know that Alabama was knocked off balance by A&M’s early scoring drives and never really recovered. But what did this game mean for the NFL Draft and the prospects in it?

Well, Luke Joeckel looked fantastic and probably cemented himself as a top 15 selection barring any surprises during his draft process. DJ Fluker also did well, and I could see him sliding back into the first round alongside his teammates Barrett Jones and Chance Warmack.

I know everyone wants to know where Johnny Manziel would get drafted and if he is eligible… the question is no. He’s a freshman. I think sometime during the game he was compared to Ty Detmer and that’s a fair comparison. He’s a very good runner on the outside and throws an adequate ball. His passes are by no means Tom Brady spirals but there is some talent there, we’ll just have to see if he evolves into more of a passer than a runner later in his career.

The SEC has a problem because Manziel is the type of quarterback who is probably going to play all four years in college. There isn’t a huge market for 6 foot quarterbacks to enter the draft early. That just means I could be writing many more of these “Johnny Football just beat _______” posts in the future.

Brian Billick made the comparison today that Texas A&M’s Ryan Tannehill could have a bad career similar to one Jamarcus Russell due to being over-drafted. Billick said Tannehill “has classic miss written all over it” and said “he reminds me of Jamarcus Russell”.

“….both shot up draft boards based on how they looked in shorts.”

Ryan Tannehill is a QB with a ton of upside. He is athletic, throws a nice ball, and is still growing into the mindset of a Quarterback after being converted from receiver. However, for him to be picked 4th or 3rd in the upcoming draft is quite ludicrous at this point. Don’t get me wrong, it’s going to happen. I just do not believe it necessarily should.

Personally the thing that bothers me the most about Tannehill is the alarming number of second half leads his team lost last year.

3 INT’s against OK State, 1 Point loss

0 TD 1 INT against ARK, 4 point loss

3 INT’s against OU

3 INT’s against Texas, 2 Point loss

(credit NFLDraftGeek for pulling those stats)

Any team that is drafting him has to know they cannot play him quickly. It has to be a slow development. But if you are Miami or Cleveland and you trade up to get him, your fans are restless, and the seats are getting hot for upper management do you have the time to wait?

On to today’s news. It seems like everyone has a different opinion on Ryan Tannehill from Texas A&M. Some people think he is a top 10 pick, some thing he is barely a first rounder, and others think he is more of a third round guy. From everything that I have read, Tannehill is going to be a first round guy. He is rated #16 overall on Scouts Inc’s top 32 board, and recently draft expert Mike Mayock chimed in with this commentary:

Expect Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill to go solidly in the first round. Mayock says Tannehill lacks some anticipation and throws into coverage, but he was ver intrigued by his skill set.

Where do you think he will go? Dallas? Seattle? Denver?!

By the time it was said and done, Tannehill scored 6, and Richardson scored 4 in his respective contest.

At Baylor, Tannehill and his A&M Squad pretty much ended the Heisman campaign of Robert Griffin III. Tannehill is a prospect who I have placed in the first round of my 2012 mock draft in the past, and though I still think Griffin’s personality will give him the nod over Ryan I think Ryan will end up making some team very happy in round two. I said it before and I’ll say it again. There are going to be multiple starting Quarterbacks taken beyond the first round in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Trent Richardson is undoubtedly going to be the #1 runningback taken this Spring. His four touchdown contest versus Ole Miss was part of a Alabama blow out win. Richardson is going to move up in the Heisman Race without a doubt.
Already in many draft experts top 10 (Ive had him in my top 10 almost 2 months now), people are now saying that he will be a top 3 pick!

Here are some tweets that have come across the twitterscope on Mr. Miller:

Adam Schefter tweeted:

To those asking where Texans A+M LB Von Miller will go in the NFL draft, the early signs are, Top 5 pick.

Scott Wright (DraftCountdown.com) tweets:

Please Remember Who Had It 1st! DraftCountdown.com RT @drmoyer421: @ShanePHallam Looks like Von Miller to Buffalo at 3 may be correct pick!

So that means the Panthers, Broncos, or Bills will make the move to grab Miller off the board early. Of these teams I think the Broncos or Bills is the best fit. Carolina will go with Fairley or Bowers most likely. Denver needs anything they can draft on defense, and the Bills as well.

Everyone update your mocks!

But then again, weight and height don’t mean everything. Or the Raiders would be in the Super Bowl. I believe Miller goes top 10, as Clay Matthews shown you cannot teach a certain level of pass rushing. Either you have the mentality or you don’t. Miller certainly has that “any means necessary” style of rushing like Matthews.

Going into the Cotton Bowl, many draft fans eyes were on LSU’s defenders Patrick Peterson and Drake Nevis. Both players are slated to come off the board in round one. In some circles Patrick Peterson is heralded as the number one overall prospect on the board, especially now that Andrew Luck will be staying in school.

A large part of Peterson’s game is definitely his return abilities. People have compared him to a better Dez Bryant in the return game. Peterson certainly had some nice runs in the Cotton Bowl to prove that point as well. But that is not why people are saying that Peterson is their favorite player on the board. It is because of his cover skills. The same cover skills that had a hard time covering Texas A&M’s Jeff Fuller at times.

Jeff Fuller was expected before the game to stay in school but it now is unclear if the 6’4 Junior will be taking his talents to south beach the NFL Draft, with Julio Jones and others. Fuller finished the game with 7 receptions for 83 yards. Not eye popping on first look, but in the game it was clear that Fuller knew how to use his size advantage on Peterson, catching many back-shoulder grabs over the “#1 player” in the draft.

According to ESPN, when asked about his NFL intentions Fuller replied, “I’m definitely thinking about it.”

On the other side of the field, Terrance Toliver had a huge day as well with 5 receptions, 112 yards and 3 touchdowns as LSU went on to close the door on the Aggies. Toliver, a Senior, will be in the draft and is slated to go as high as the first round.
