4. Cowboys: Irv Smith TE Alabama

Irv Smith Alabama 6’3″ 245 lbs. Round 4: The Cowboys obviously have issues at TE and Irv Smith is a nice option. To me Smith falls into a similar category as guys like David Njoku and Ian Thomas last year. Going to need a bit of time, but the potential is there. Irv can go much higher than this if he continues to play at a high level. He’s been given more oppurtunities to catch the ball this year, but he didn’t have production in previous years. He has great speed for the position, and has the ability to fly up the seam for big yardage. He isn’t a great blocker year, but has done it at Alabama and may fit best in a zone scheme. He’s not overly big. He also has fumbled a bit as well, which could hurt his stock, but he could be the starter sooner rather than later.

5. Cowboys: Kaleb McGary OT Washington

6’8″ 320 lbs. Round 4: Dallas may need to address OT in this draft. Collins hasn’t been as good as the Cowboys have needed him to be, and Smith hasn’t been able to stay healthy. Even if he isn’t a starter, McGary can be a very good swing tackle considering Fleming isn’t as good as advertised. McGary is a large man, who has a lot of starts. He isn’t quite as talented as Trey Adams, but he is consistent and is a force in the run game. As a pass blocker he is quality, but not quite special. His stock could easily rise though as the process continues.

6. Cowboys: Greg Gaines DT Washington

6’2″ 330 lbs. Round 5: A very large man who is difficult to move, and is a natural space eater. The issues is that he has next to no pass rush ability and wont’ really beat double teams either. He’s a true big bodied DT who won’t be moved, can get a little push, but not much outside of that. He can help free up blockers for Dallas’s best pass rushers, but a nice player to take a flyer on this late in the draft.
