As we get closer and closer to the 2015 NFL draft everyone is busy rewriting their mock drafts and analyzing players over and over again. Including myself, who is working on a NEW updated 2015 NFL Mock draft right now. To help everyone and share my thoughts on where these guys stack up I have released my FULL positional rankings for the 2015 draft class!

Click here to see the rankings

Again, thank you to everyone who is currently submitting their own mock drafts for this years’ class. Please go over there and comment on a few of the drafts to let them know what you think!

The playoffs are winding down and draft season is almost upon us. Make sure you catch all of the action between the East-West Shrine game and the Senior Bowl as those are important games in the draft process especially for Seniors.

Of course we are all waiting for the pro season to conclude so we can get to the NFL combine where the numbers REALLY count.

Who do you think will be ranked first at quarterback when its all said and done?

Who’s the #1 running back?

Would you believe who I have ranked as the #1 wide receiver right now?!

Make sure you hit those rankings now!

This wraps up a week of your questions on the 2015 NFL Draft class. We have chopped it up right here on MDHQ on a lull of topics regarding this class including sleepers, my favorite players, and players who are going to be very risky picks in 2015. There is talent there, but also a lot of risk in this year’s class.

Here is the question:

if you’re a GM and your team REALLY needs a long term solution at QB… who do you draft?

Now first and foremost, there isn’t an NFL team that is brave enough to give YA BOY a shot at general managing. It goes without saying that this is totally hypothetical.

The correct answer is that I wouldn’t pick ANY of them. There are too many questions with this class. Jameis Winston can’t stay away from the bul#### in his life. Love him on the field but I can’t give him the keys to the franchise.

Marcus Mariota comes from an offense that relies on simple pre-snap reads (hence why he struggled with Arizona who disguised coverages with a 3-3-5.) Colin Kaepernick also came from an offense that didn’t require him to make detailed post snap reads now he struggles at finding receivers as a pro.

Brett Hundley has inconsistent mechanics and that’s already lead “Mr. 6 Players Traded for Me” Robert Griffin III to the bench in his third season. The rest of the quarterbacks have red flags and are excellent at one thing or another but very inefficient at everything else. Connor Cook is staying in school as well which doesn’t help round out the class.

If I HAD to pick someone I’d guess you’d trade the farm and get Mariota. He has the elite dual-threat skill set that has taken over the league and zero character issues. I’d want to bring in a coach with him that knows how to use such players without asking them to make a quantum leap in their processing of the game. Mike Shanahan’s first year with RGIII and implementing the pistol in Washington is a great example of this concept.

Check out the other questions that were answered this week: here.

And as always, check out the latest mock drafts here and here.

Thanks for the question:

The questions continue to come in regarding this draft class. On paper, this is one of the most confusing draft classes in a long time. Almost all of the best prospects have HUGE red flags. The entire draft community is scratching their heads what to make of a lot of these guys.

Anyways here is today’s Q:

who do you think is the biggest sleeper (any position) in this draft class?

It is difficult to answer this question especially when you consider that a sleeper is a player that most people consider to be marginal at best who turns into a player on the next level. A great example of this would be the Broncos’ new running back CJ Anderson who got no press coming out of Cal in 2013.

Again, I’m not going to answer with a quarterback because this class is littered with red flags there. I’m almost ready to say that if you can’t get Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston, or Brett Hundley then you may as well skip this year (and Hundley is even a stretch.)

So who in this class has the potential to do the same? I’m going to guess Gerod Holliman from Louisville. He leads the nation in interceptions with 14 but he’s not a physical player and that will ding his draft stock to the third round or later. In this NFL players who can change the field on defense are rare commodities and the safety position is becoming more about taking these fast tight ends out of the game and of course covering deep.

Thanks for the question:

I am still answering your questions from Twitter regarding the 2015 NFL Draft class! You already know, this is just my opinion so please take everything with a grain of salt. I don’t claim to be an expert nor do I play one on TV.

Anyways lets get with today’s question:

5 Years From Now, Who Will be the Best NFL Player From this Draft Class?

Very easy question for me to answer: Justin Hardy and Shane Carden, hands down! ARRRGH! GO PIRATES!

All homerism aside, it takes looking at the draft class objectively. Every one of these quarterbacks has a red flag so I’m not banking on any of them. The backs are good but some already have excessive amounts of carries and/or injuries, the receivers aren’t in that elite status, and the bulk of the more talented offensive linemen have had off years.

Defensively a lot of my favorite players (Marcus Peters, Vic Beasley, etc.) are undersized for their positions. Others are extremely young (Leonard Williams.)

So who do I think will be the best player from the 2015 draft class?!

I’m going to go with my gut and say Ifo Ekpre-Olomu from Oregon. I know, I know, he’s only 5’10 195 and he’s had about three awful games this year but if you look back one year you see one of the best corners in the nation. I really like how he locates and attacks the ball which is an elite skill in the new pass happy NFL. This pick will probably be 100% wrong by the way.

Thanks for the question:

As you know, I am currently answering questions from Twitter regarding the 2015 NFL Draft class. I appreciate the opportunity to answer these questions for everyone here on MDHQ. Today’s question is one of the wide receiver variation:

is Amari Cooper as special as advertised? Do you believe he can impact a game like AJ/Julio/Calvin/Demaryius/Dez? -bariiisworld13 (Twitter)

To answer the question simply: no. I know we are all excited over Cooper’s last few games but we have to remember this was against an Auburn team that simply refused to adjust their scheme. Not to say he isn’t a special talent, but he isn’t in that ELITE class you mentioned.

Calvin Johnson has physical tools that isn’t regularly duplicated at the position. Demariyus Thomas and Dez Bryant are also bigger more physical players who play as much at the line of scrimmage than they do down-field. Cooper is only 6-1 210 so he’s solid but not a genetic freak. I cannot really compare Cooper to AJ Green because Green has Moss-like leaping and catching ability that sets him apart from the rest of the group.

Julio Jones is a slightly bigger and more physical player (6-3 220+) and hence he gets injured often. They are comparable in their games but I’d hesitate to make a lazy Alabama-to-Alabama comparison.

When I watch Amari Cooper I see an injury-free version of Jeremy Maclin. Both are smooth route runners who don’t drop a lot of passes (what’s up Demariyus and Julio) and they have the speed to legitimately command safety help at all times.

I currently have Cooper projected as a top 5-6 pick so he’s still a guy you want on your squad even minus the physical tools.

Thanks for the question:

So on Twitter, I asked people to submit any questions they have regarding this upcoming draft class. We got some good questions in and I am excited to reveal my opinions on each and every one of them.

As you see by the title of this post I was asked about the best tackles, guards, and pass rushers in this draft class. This is a good question. With many teams in need at those positions, especially right tackle, there will be a run on offensive linemen in my opinion.

As far as the offensive line goes I’m going to say that the best right tackle prospect right now is Cedric Ogbuehi. Ogbuehi played RT in 2013 and was a big reason behind Johnny Manziel and Texas A&M’s dominance up front in the SEC.

At guard I’m going to go with AJ Cann of South Carolina. I also like Tre Jackson of FSU but quite simply FSU’s line in general has looked bad.

At OLB the answer is simple: Vic Beasley. Shaq Thompson is the better player and better overall athlete but you asked specifically for pass rusher and that is Beasley’s specialty. Remember Beasley would have been a premium pick (term I coined for the top 12-16 players chosen) in 2014.

Thanks for the question.

@MockDraftHQ in your opinion, who are the best RT, OG, & OLB (3-4 pass rusher) in this draft class?
