Nate Drew and Omar Salih Named U.S. Army All-American Co-Players of the Week

Rockaway, N.J. (Oct. 15, 2013)- Wide Receiver Nate Drew and Quarterback Omar Salih of Chavez Academy High School (Detroit, MI.) were named the U.S. Army All-American Bowl High School Co-Player of the Week, for the week ending October 11th. Drew hauled in 17 passes and 459 yards and 7 touchdowns in a 64-41 win at Mayville to break the national single-game yardage record of 356 set last season by Waldport’s (Ore.) Kraig Pruett. Drew caught all his passes from Omar Salih, who broke at least two state records by completing 32 of 52 passes for 689 yards and 9 touchdowns.

The U.S. Army All-American Bowl High School Player of the Week was designed to recognize the nation’s top high school performance of the week. Football players possess a similar set of mental, emotional and physical strengths to Army Strong Soldiers. For more than a decade, the U.S. Army All-American Bowl has been the Nation’s premier high school football game, serving as the preeminent launching pad for America’s future college and NFL stars. In the 2012 NFL Draft Andrew Luck became the first U.S. Army All-American Bowl alumnus to be selected with the first overall pick. The 2013 U.S. Army All-American Bowl drew a record crowd of 40,133 to the Alamodome, and was the most-watched sporting event on television over the weekend, excluding the NFL playoffs.
