Philadelphia Eagles to Pick #3 in 2013 NFL Draft?

By
Updated: November 27, 2012

What a season it has been for the Philadelphia Eagles. This team once dubbed “The Dream Team” in 2011, has been a total Nightmare. Coach Andy Reid seems to have lost the hand on this team, and once again quarterback Michael Vick has been injured and missed games.

The defense has struggled as well. Last night against the Carolina Panthers we all saw how uncomfortable the Eagles defensive players look in their scheme. Trent Cole and Jason Babin used to be one of the most disruptive duos at defensive end, now they seem nonexistent. The defensive backs seem to have multiple communication errors every drive. All of those errors of course lead to easy touchdowns, four of which Cam Newton cashed in himself as they threw the dirt on the Eagles 2012 season.

With the loss the Eagles are now third in the draft and the question begs an answer.

Who will they pick?

Note: My new mock is coming either later today or early tomorrow so this pick may change there.

1. QB Matt Barkley, USC.
I know Eagles fans don’t want to admit it but this team is cooked. It’s over. This group of guys isn’t working well together, and all of that starts at quarterback and head coach. Of which the Eagles can grab a top QB relatively easy. Jacksonville picks #2 right now and will likely stay with Gabbert/Henne… leaving #1 Kansas City to take Geno Smith and the Eagles would get their pick of the remaining quarterbacks.

2. Manti Teo, Notre Dame
Some times a team says “screw it” and takes the highest rated player on their board, and worries about the rest later. The Broncos did it in 2011 when they took OLB Von Miller #2 over a more pressing need at DT and have reaped huge rewards. Would the Eagles just take Teo and find a quarterback later? It isn’t out the question.

3. Luke Joeckel, Texas A&M
The Eagles need to sure up that offensive line no matter who is the quarterback. King Dunlap is not very good… and that is me trying to be nice with my adjectives. It is time to replace King. With the #3 pick Philly can get a top tier tackle and worry about the rest later.

Eagles fans, who do you want?

Jarvis Jones! i dont mind the Teo pick but the barkley pick ehhh no USC QB’s not a chance they would be stupid enough to draft one of those. If nothing else trade back to 14-17 like the rams did stock up on picks and grab a top SS to replace Kurt Coleman

Let’s just assume they get a RT in FA (Vollmer?!) I hope they trade down, get a second and thirth or fourth rounder in return and draft Dee Milliner in the first round. Maybe a team like the Rams are willing to trade up for a guy like Joeckel. Then I’d really like them to trade back into the first round (for their 2e second round pick and a fourth) and snatch the best safety possible (Reid, Elam or Vaccaro). With their remaining second round pick get the best tackle or guard (Barrett Jones, DJ Fluker). An immediate upgrade of their secondary and offensive line! Both problems would be adressed! Beter 2 quality players added to their secondary and as a bonus add a good lineman than ONE Luke Joeckel! Sorry!

That’s actually not a bad idea. Or they could trade a little higher in the 2nd round to have two high 2nds which is just as good if not better than #3 overall…

Exactly! The’re picking at 3 right know. Great possition for trading down and stocking up picks. They need to upgrade more areas than just their OL. Look what the Rams did last draft; now they have 2 picks in the first round! Jeff Fisher knows how to rebuild a team. So need the Eagles…
